building CVS flac
...'ve installed libtool-1.5.6 and gettext-0.14.1. :-) I did need to tweak autogen.sh to use "aclocal -I /usr/share/aclocal" in order to find XIPH_PATH_OGG, or else "configure" was syntactically incorrect because that macro wouldn't expand. Next problem: When compiling flac123, I discovered there is no callback.h installed in /usr/local/include/FLAC. I think callback.h needs to be added to include/FLAC/Makefile.am . When I manually copy callback.h and try again, I can't find my data types: $ make if gcc -DPACKAGE_NAME=\"flac123\" -DPACKAGE_TARNAME=\&q...

flac123 revival
Hello Dan Johnson, hello list, It's really weird that there's no working command line player for FLAC files. Dan Johnson created flac123 (licensed under the GPL) to fill that gap, and started the flac-tools project. Unfortunately, flac123 doesn't work anymore with the latest FLAC, and the flac-tools project has been idle for more than a year. I created a patch that makes flac123 work again with the latest flac (tested with 1.1...

flac123 resurrection
flac123 is back! Version 0.0.3 is now available at http://flac-tools.sourceforge.net . flac123 now supports FLAC 1.1.0, and its remote mode mimics mpg123's. Please test it for bugs and report them to the flac-tools sourceforge forum. ______________________________________________________________...

wav to flac corruption
Hello, I'm attempting to convert fairly large WAV files (90 - 800 MB each) using flac but the files do not work after the encoding. (The play fine in wav format) Command I'm using: flac --verify -8 file.wav Attempting to run the file with either flac123 or the default player for Ubuntu (Movie Player?) results in the extremely terse messages: Default Player: "An Error Occurred: Could Not Decode Stream" flac123: "error handler called!" <- repeated over and over and over There are no errors during the encoding, though there ar...

building CVS flac
Josh, I'm trying to build CVS flac-1.1.1 in order to make sure flac123 will work with it. I'm having a hard time getting autogen.sh's aclocal to work with configure.in. I'm using autoconf-2.59 (from source) on Redhat 9.0. I have found automake-1.7.8 and automake-1.8.5 yield similar results: $ ./autogen.sh aclocal: configure.in: 142: macro `AM_PROG_L...

Vorbisgain / Flac
have linux install on my laptop, and decide to clean up my music collection, found allot of my music that has replaygain tags, and allot don't. How would I fix the ones that don't have any replaygain tags, ? have flac and flac123 ogg ogg123 vorbistools and vorbisgain..etc, all installed, can play music fine, but when I hit a song, that doesn't have replaygain tags, need to turn down the volume. Amarok is my main player. Do I need to re-tag? what would I use ? Major Thanks - Richard -------------- next part --------...

Problems with gain
...lac REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN=-9.96 dB $ metaflac --show-tag=REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN <some>.flac REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN=-9.96 dB The flacs are always louder played as the mp3s and this happens with all players I have: mplayer, amarok (using either gestreamer or xine engine) and even with mpg123 and flac123. The mp3s are simply gained with mp3gain (http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net): $ mp3gain -r <some>.mp3 What can I do about that? [Flac-users] Stuttering over NFS & Samba
...e set-top box, they're all on a server connected by a dedicated 100BaseT line. My problem is when playing a song encoded with FLAC, I get stutters and skips. I don't think this has anything to do with FLAC, I think it's an NFS (Samba too) problem. This happens both with xmms and with flac123. It seems to me that a dedicated 100Mbps line should be sufficient for real-time streaming of FLAC data, but I suppose the protocols I'm using (NFS and SMB) weren't designed for streaming. Can anyone give me any suggestions for how to address this problem? Should I use a different networ...

...se it couldn't write to /usr/lib/xmms/Input/ (Nat?rlich!). Now, thankfully I have the root-password to this machine (since it's my workstation at home), but if I hadn't had it (like at work), it would've been much harder to build the xmms-module. And so, another thing. Is there any flac123 (like ogg123's mpg123-lookalike) or are anyone working on one? Finally, encouragement (mandatory): GOOD WORK! I haven't toyed with it much yet, but so far I really like what I've seen! It will definitely be useful to compress my liverecordings. :> -- Martin Persson marti...

...e embedded environment upon which mvpmc is based. In fact according to top the CPU utilization for FLAC decoding and playing is only 10%. I was very please and was going to release a beta release to our developers when I noticed that the code I use (based on the test_libFLAC encoders.c program and flac123.c) would not play "type =INDEPENDENT" files. The way the MediaMVP device works is there is an onboard audio processor which can decode PCM (in either OggVorbis or MS WAV formats) , various MPEG, and AC3. Basically for the LPC type I just write() the date to the hardware file descriptor...

command-line: AIFF writer advice
The patch I submitted only reads AIFF files. I'm about to start the patch to write AIFF files. To do so, we need a command-line option to specify AIFF. My inclination is to add an option: -ff { raw | wav | aif } In some sense, "-ff" is silly since it probably stands for "format format". Still, I think it's better than just "-f", since the first

...to > flac-tools. Is anyone still working on that project? I don't think so. I am planning to add CDDB index and CDindex generation methods to libFLAC, which will compute them from the CUESHEET metadata block, and then adding metaflac options to get them. We're also considering mergign flac123 from flac-tools into the main flac codebase. Josh __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
