Bug-closing protocol
Hi all,
First of all, I'm sorry to create a separate thread on the mailing list, I
have disabled all mails from it.
I just read the thread about the bug closing protocol thanks to LLVMWeekly.
I've noticed a lot of reactions from people involved with the solving part
of the bugs. So I'm putting out the loggers point of

configuration question
Hello,
The first thing I would suggest is to check freshmeat.net and see if there
is something comparable to astound out there for linux, therefore bypassing
the whole windows program need, bypassing the need for most pay-per-license
fees. As far as running a windows program under linux, you would need WINE,
vmware or some other win-emulator. Hope this advise helps some.

and life goes on
they say that deaths come in threes...
for me, it was these:
1. scott wannberg, los angeles poet, one of my favorite performers
2. michael hart, founder of project gutenberg, icon and iconoclast
3. steve jobs, seemingly the only guy who made stuff work correctly
i'm sure that for others, dennis ritchie is on their list, for his own
trio:
1. c
2. k&r
3. unix

projecting GIS coordinates for analysis with spatstat package
I am working on creating an R package for doing fire department analysis and
am trying to create a function that can display emergency incident
densities. The following code sort of does the trick, but I need a display
that shows the number of incidents per square mile. I believe the code
below shows incidents per square unit (in this case, degrees lat/long).
To solve this problem, I believe

Bug-closing protocol
With the CfP out now, I'm actually motivated to organize a BoF on this
topic at the October dev meeting.
I haven't put much thought in yet, but think it'd be awesome if we could at
least make substantial progress on getting to a bug-closing
process/protocol.
As one of the people creating bugzilla accounts for new people, I see
multiple people requesting an account every day, intending

A. .D. .V. 4 - Free* Home Security System
...fer applies to homeowners only. Local permit fees may be required. Satisfactory credit history required. Certain restrictions may apply. Offer valid for new customers only. Other rate plans available. Cannot be combined with any other offer.
Monitored smoke detectors are available - give our firefighters a fighting chance to save your home! Great for isolated country homes or gated communities.
Your home insurance costs may be reduced 10 to 20% by adding a security system.

Problem with factor state when subset()ing a data.frame
Hi folks,
I am running into a problem when calling subset() on a large
data.frame. One of the columns contains strings which are used as
factors. R seems to automatically factor the column when the
data.frame is contstructed, and this appears to not get updated when I
create a subset of the table.
A minimal testcase to demonstrate the problem follows:
sample <- data.frame(c("A",

to extend data.frame or not ... that is the question
I am designing a package to analyze fire department data. I created an S4
class called CAD (short for Computer Aided Dispatch data) as part of this
package that essentially extends the data.frame class. When the user
initializes a CAD object, a data.frame object is broken down into seperate
incident data and unit response data that are stored in separate slots.
This separation is intentional

puppetdb, foreman, one particular node has a problem
I have about 75 nodes now and recently added 6 of them. They are all
running Debian squeeze and all have exactly the same Puppet packages. One

How to help improving Wine?
Hi,
I really did my best to understand how I can help improving Wine, but I did
not succed.
Well, everything started when I installed a win application on my Debian 3.1,
Wine 2004.07.16 deb (clean install, no dlls).
The application is ALOHA (http://www.epa.gov/ceppo/cameo/aloha.htm)
It's a free application from US-Environment Protection Agency used for
chemical emergency planning (I am an
