ZIL SSD performance testing... -IOzone works great, others not so great
...offloaded ZIL.
I''m attempting to improve my infrastructure''s burstable write capacity
(ZFS based WebDav servers), and naturally I''m looking at implementing
SSD based ZIL devices.
I have a test machine with the crummiest hard drive I can find installed
in it, Quantum Fireball ATA-100 4500RPM 128K cache, and an Intel X25-E
32gig SSD drive.
I''m trying to do A-B comparisons and am coming up with some very odd
results:
The first test involves doing IOZone write testing on the fireball
standalone, the SSD standalone, and the fireball with the SSD as a log

Footnote support in Markdown
Hi All.
I've just started using Markdown for my blog.
So far it seems quite nice, but the one issue I've run into is a lack
of "native" support for footnotes. I think that Daring Fireball's
footnote style makes a lot of sense, and that's what I intend to use.
However, it is a bit cumbersome to implement that style from within
Markdown.
I notice that the PHP Markdown Extra project has Daring
Fireball-style footnote support, and it seems to be implemented in
quite an int...

Entity conversion glitch?
Hello,
Given the following text:
under a license from AT&T; however, others were based on BSD instead.
Daring Fireball's Markdown Dingus produces:
<p>under a license from AT&T; however, others were based on BSD
instead.</p>
Note how the '&' is not escaped to '&'.
Bug? Feature?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
PA.

Markdown doesn't always generate XHTML
...#39;ve just noticed that markdown doesn't always generate XHTML. In
particular the input
<script src="http://evilserver.net/evil.js">
generates the output:
<p><script src="http://evilserver.net/evil.js"></p>
(This is the markdown dingus at daring fireball, and the markdownj
implementation exhibits the same problem. I havn't checked other
implementations of markdown.)
I have two issues with this:
1. The script tag isn't closed, which means it's not valid XML (and thus
not valid XHTML).
2. It's a security issue if you allow visito...

That's the second paragraph.
### Output
It has been said countless times in the discussions that one output
format cannot satisfy everyone. So I'm not trying to make something
which will work for everyone. I decided I'd follow what I've seen on
Daring Fireball, as I think it's a pretty good default, but with some
minor differences. Here is the default output from the first sample:
<p>That's some text with a footnote.

Asterisk/Metaswitch trunk, no inbound RTP stream on inbound calls

what I could possibly be doing wrong in my configuration for a SIP trunk
that's setup through my local ISPs Metaswitch. I've setup a very simple

still comes back to the following basic setup:

underscore and italic policy
Hi All,
So I just joined the list - first off, Markdown is a great format and
we're using it in our online community project disCourse:
http://discourse.ics.hawaii.edu
We're using markdown for our wiki pages, stories, message postings,
pretty much everywhere.
One markdown policy that doesn't seem to fit intuitively for our users
is the fact that embedded underscores leads to

New to Markdown, Suggestion . . .
...t. I'm also polishing my Python skills,
which led me to the two renditions of Markdown in Python from the
site. I tinkered with what I can only assume to be the original--and
then found it is no longer available. So, this evening I started
tinkering with Markdown-1.4.py
I noticed on the Daring Fireball site that there is a notion to allow
starting OLs at an arbitrary number:

# Output:

# Should-Be Output:

the future of markdown, according to whom?
...of it does indeed reside in those
half-assed -- or quarter-assed -- implementations.
if such trivialities are what "markdown" really means,
then you can have it. of course, for his blog anyway,
trivialities are how gruber uses markdown, if he does.
have you done a view-source on daring fireball lately?
john is using definition-list tags for his blog entries!
hey, i've never been one to argue for "semantic purity",
so i don't care, but who wants to use that as a model?)
in other words, i think it's too late to "unify" markdown.
