Rsync: Re: patch to enable faster mirroring of large filesyst ems
In my particular case, it is reasonable to assume that the size and timestamp will change when the file is updated. (We are looking at it as a patching mechanism.) Right now it's actually using update time only, I should modify it to check the file size as well. Is there a way you could query your database to tell you which extents have data that has been modified within a certain timeframe?

Not in any practical way that I know of. It's not normally a major hassle for us since rsync is used for a central backup that occurs on a large enough time scale that the timestamp does normally change

I was at first, but then removed it. The results were still insufficiently fast. > Were you using the -c option of rsync? It sounds like you > were and it's > extremely slow. Why does disable loading of zfs module in boot causes
Hello, I tried to disable loading of the zfs module by adding "exclude zfs" in /etc/system. I rebooted and got into "maintainance mode" with many services disbaled (as svcs -xv shows). I don''t have any zfs partitons on this machine. So my question is: for what is the zfs module in booting of solaris ? Why can''t it be disabled? Regards, David This message

impossible to create a ext3 filesystem on a LVM2 Logical Volume
...ve mentionned problem. System is a HP Proliant DL380 with HP SmartArray 5304-256 Controller and a HP StorageWorks 4300 disk shelf. OS is Debian/testing with kernel 2.6.3 and LVM2. I've created a new LV and when I try to create the FS on it, it fails when saying "Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information:" sar output shows that CPU is in 100% wio. Only way to solve it is to perform a hard reboot (killing the process does nothing). I've performed a strace of the 'mkfs.ext3' and last system call is a call to fsync (see hereafter as small part of the trace...

[PATCH 5/5] inspect: gather info from /usr filesystems as well (RHBZ#1401474)
Flag the filesystems for Linux /usr properly as USR role, and detect some data out of it, like the distro information from an os-release (if present), and the architecture (since the binaries used for our architecture check will be available there only). Later on, collect the results in a way similar to what is done...

[PATCH v2 0/2] Improve inspection of /usr filesystems
Hi, this patch series improves the way /usr filesystems are handled: tag them appropriately, so later on we can find them and merge results they contain directly back for the root filesystem. Changes in v2: - removed patches #1 and #2, already pushed - drop patch #3, no more needed - replace patch #4 with a better suggestion from Rich - change if int...

[PATCH 0/5] Improve inspection of /usr filesystems
Hi, this patch series improves the way /usr filesystems are handled: tag them appropriately, so later on we can find them and merge results they contain directly back for the root filesystem. The series includes also a new private debug API, and its usage to fix the resolution of /dev/mapper/.. devices found in fstab; without it, LVM /usr filesystems...

[PATCH 0 of 3 v2] PV-GRUB: add support for ext4 and btrfs
Hi, The following patches add support for ext4 and btrfs to PV-GRUB. These patches are taken nearly verbatim from those provided by Fedora and Gentoo. We''ve been using these patches for the PV-GRUB images available in EC2 for some time now with no problems. Changes from v1: - Makefile has been changed to check the exit code from patch - The btrfs patch has been rebased to apply

This is the (incomplete) patch which reimplements inspection APIs in the daemon. All ‘XXX’s in this patch indicate areas which are not yet implemented or need further work. Rich.
