the tail is wrong. To get the right answer you should type
pf(qf(0.05,1,6-3,lower.tail=FALSE),1,6-3,ncp=1.92,lower.tail=TRUE)
If one knows the bug, it is easy to get around, but... it shouldn't
return the wrong number.

gradient. I was wondering if there is any way to estimate the
covariance matrix for the parameters when using the Nealder Meade
optimization method. If so is there a book, or article, that I can
refer to about how this is done, it would be greatly appreciated.

tools in the core (optim::L-BFGS-B, nlm, nlminb) can and should be moved to

are merging). And optim::SANN does not match any usual expectations of users.
I'm sure there are other tools for other tasks that can and should move to packages
to streamline the work of our core team. However, I can understand that there is this
awkward issue of actually doing this. I know I...

SweaveInput and absolute paths
Hi,
Is there a way to turn off the automatic inclusion of "./" at the
beginning of a path specified in an \SweaveInput{} instruction?
I'd like to create some reusable "template modules" of Sweave code and
put them in a standard directory like
/Resources/Affymetrix
Then the corresponding file that uses one of these would include a
command like

Domain Users Get Login Prompt with Guest grayed out
We are running Samba v1.2 with Unix v3.2 kernal 5.0.6
I am a complete newbie at Unix/Samba.
Samba is not a domain controller
PC users (Windows XP Pro SP2) logged into the domain are getting prompted
for a guest password. When the username prompt pops up, the username is
defaulted to guest and is grayed out.
If a person logs into the local machine on a pc instead of logging into

Package inclusion in R core implementation
Hi,
It sometimes happens that some packages get included to R like for example
the parallel package.
I was wondering if there is a process to decide whether or not to include a
package in the core implementation of R?
For example, why not include the Rcpp package, which became for a lot of
user the main tool to extend R?
What is our view on the (not so well known) dotCall64 package which is an
