OT: Suggestions for RAID HW for 2 SATA drives in DellPowerEdge SC
...separate array, so the OS HD is basically used for loading > binaries. Ross: Thank you! I also read your reply to Israel in Cuba, which may be applicable for me. About 10 seconds after I started this thread, I remembered a long discussion about RAID, SATA, etc., 2 or 3 months ago. I think that Feizhou (?) strongly recommended going with Software RAID in CentOS. I will search for that and do a lot of reading. RAID 1 for mirroring is what I want. Lanny

sysfs udev hald -_-
I tried creating a new partition on a disk. After the partition table was written, I got a message about the kernel still using the old partition table. How do I get whatever system to register the new partition short of rebooting the box?

Anaconda doesn't support raid10
So after troubleshooting this for about a week, I was finally able to create a raid 10 device by installing the system, copying the md modules onto a floppy, and loading the raid10 module during the install. Now the problem is that I can't get it to show up in anaconda. It detects the other arrays (raid0 and raid1) fine, but the raid10 array won't show up. Looking through the logs

I wish to move all of my mail, address book and bookmarks created in Thunderbird and Firefox from the Fedora system to the new Centos system. Would someone kindly point me in the right direction, I am relatively new at linux. Many thanks for any assistance. christian

What do you think about this motherboard?
Hello all..... I would like to know if anyone here has had good experience with this Supermicro motherboard.....http://supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7221/P8SCT.cfm I am thinking about using it in an entry level mail and file server with a 3ware card and 200 GB SATA drives. Cost is a factor here otherwise I would go for an Opteron board instead. JC

How fouled-up can you get??
I subscribed, and am getting emails hand over fist. They'll bust my inbox quota if I miss a day. I went to the web site for my subscription and tried to disable delivery; I'll follow this list on gmane or not at all -- and that works with every other mailman list I've tried. It wouldn't let me -- kept reverting to the password screen; I kept giving it the password, and making the

From: Feizhou > I know what a Kerberos authentication system is. > You mean a core component in Samba 3.0's functionality as an ADS client. You're still artificially limiting your understanding. Kerberos (with the MS extensions in the case of 200x/XP) is how objects authenticate each other and g...

anaconda in centOS 4 fails to read md raid arrays
Has anybody encountered this problem? I have a box that has FC2 installed. I wanted to trash the FC2 installation and install CentOS 4. I have a pxeboot/dhcp/kickstart environment and so I tried automatic disk partitioning (clear all partitions and then create new ones), manual disk partitioning but everything else is automated and finally, zero automation, just a manual installation through
