Windows Guest on KVM running "single core" after windows update
...ely run reliably on bare-metel let alone a VM install. I've tried playing with the CPU topology and nothing seems to help. I will say one thing that I noticed is: when giving the guest 8 cores and not setting the topology, windows device manager shows 8 CPUs but the task manager only shows 2. Feh. Windows. Anyway - looks like a fresh install to 22H2 is in my future. Oh well. I have backups of needed data of the 2 applications the VM is used for. And the data (like video footage) is off on a couple of raw partitions. So the QCOW2 image could honestly get nuked at any time and I don't r...

2.9p1?? core dump in auth_log
...null, this will dump core. I discovered this using SSH1 publickey auth with my hacked 20010424 CVS sources. auth.c and auth1.c haven't changed since then, so I suspect this may still be lurking. I'm going to test it against 2.9p1 as soon as I can, but I have to run off to jury duty now (feh). A local patch is to change the marked line above to: authctxt->valid ? (authctxt->pw->pw_uid == 0 ? "ROOT" : authctxt->user) : "unknown user", A larger issue is why getpwnam() hasn't been called by that point... -- Carson Gaspar - carson at taltos.org Que...

Feh. Windows. Historically, if you did NOT specify topology then QEMU would defaults to sockets==nCPUs, cores==1, threads=1. Since QEMU 6.2, new machine types for x86 will prefer cores, IOW, if you don't specify topology then QEMU would give you sockets=1, cores=nCPUs, threads=1 The rationale fo...

Batch Mode for Windows
Hi, I have researched batch mode for windows and could not find anything that worked. I know the code should be $ R CMD BATCH inputfile.R outputfile.Rout or R <inputfile.R > outputfile.Rout I tried these without success. I need detailed, step by step instructions on how to do this. I have tried typing C:\R\bin\x64\Rgui.exe before it, but this just opens R. When I tried to do this, it

lastes sources don't include "drop_cache" option
Was there some reason that patch got dropped? Otherwise rsync eats up all the buffer memory. Note -- I tried directio -- didn't work due to alignment issues -- buffers have to be aligned to sectors. The kernel, if I remember correctly, has been on again/off again on requiring alignment on directio -- because most of the drivers and devices do for directio to work, at. "dd"

Code in Rd help files other than in \examples{}
I am stumped in determining the proper syntax for including displayed S code within an R .Rd documentation file, in places other than \examples{}. I have tried \code{ line 1 line 2 } but the lines get run together. When I terminate the lines by \cr, the "\cr" actually appears in the resulting html file. This is all inside a customized \section{}. On a related note, what is

Include "print" output into plots
Hello, I would like to set up some automatic reporting using R. For this purpose, I need to include the output of "print" commands into the graphics produced by some "plot" commands. 1. Is there an easy way to do this? 2. Is it possible to redirect "print" into a string? (except redirecting into a file and than scanning back?) 3. What is the best way to get
