virtual machine installation Questions
hello,
sorry that I post it here again, as I have already posted it on www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-xen/.
Now I am working on fedora6Xen,i.e. 2.6.20-1.2944.fc6xen .Several questions:
1. After I have installed the windowsXP, the XP OS of course needs to reboot, but then the WindowsXP is automatically closed. How can I restart it? And I use #virsh start , the domain will be running, but when I open it, just a black screen on the V...

Convert a real system in a DomU
Hi,
I was a server running Fedora 6. I want to migrate it to Xen on a
Centos 5.1. Can I make something like
dd if=/dev/sdaX of=fedora6.img (on FC6)
and then on Centos 5.1
dd if=fedora6.img of=/dev/sdaX
Could I run this system into Xen?
Thanks in advance!

PXE client does not honor "hostname" parameter passed by DHCP server
Hello all,
I would like to seek advise on the following; I have configured linux
NFSroot images for a bunch of servers and am able to boot and run
stuff happily; one nuance that bothers me is that, for instance, my
Fedora6 (x64) (kernel 2.6.22), (and noticed also in some other distros
- Fedora8, Ubuntu710), the client boots but DOES NOT seem to pick up
the hostname I pass it through the DCHP server.
1. DHCP host declaration:
host r02s02 {
hardware ethernet 00:A0:D1:E3:57:CA;
fixed-address 192.168.16.12;

please explain this xen error message to me (newbie here)
"an error has occured. no valid devices were found on which to create a file
system"
this message is what I get installing a copy of fedroa6 on fedora6 using
xen. now the instructions in fedora said either specify a file or
partition. I made sure the file I created (called feddy6_xen) in my
root/xenmachines directory had plenty of space..20gb left on that
partition...so shouldn''t it just install into the new file? and if I can''t...

Can not find hvmloader in /usr/lib/xen/boot
Hi all:
I am installing Windows XP SP2 on xen 3.0.4 with a VT able machine, but I
can not find hvmloader in /usr/lib/xen/boot。I installed xen from source
code, compile it, build it and installed it, does this matters?
Then I installed xen 3.0.4 in Fedora6 by yum install xen* and copy the
hvmloader to the former machine, It looks like winxp was started, but when I
use vnc to connect to winxp, the screen was black.
Can anybody solove this problem?
Thanks in advance.

FW: zaptel 1.4.0 on Fedora Core 6 x86_64
I tried to test Asterisk 1.4 on FC6 x86_64. I have it working on FC5 x86_64
very good, but since FC keeps updating, I tried to follow newer kernel
versions.
I can't pass the zaptel compilation. Everything is OK, but when I finished,
and tried to load it, allways got module not found when I run modprobe
zaptel, and modprobe ztdummy.
I already tried to modify is with the sed 1 option but

NFSv4 hangs on file open
...inux.so.2
10 0x00628817 in _start () from /lib/ld-linux.so.2
The NFSv4 is automounted (direct mount):
cat /etc/auto.pkg
/pkg -fstype=nfs4 server:/i32
For what is worth, I tried NFSv4 with CentOS4 server but it was hopeless
(server would stop responding or panic). Older kernel releases of Fedora6
(2.6.19?) were hopeless too, with similar symptoms.
Anybody knows who may be interested in some detailed bug report, or help
debugging the problem?
Pawel
PS.
The server logs plenty of messages:
NFSD: setclientid: string in use by client(clientid 46604ac4/00000016)
but my rpc.idmapd configurat...

Segmentation Faults on DomU
Hi All,
I am seeing strange segmentation faults on DomU after I install gcc (
or for that matter any s/w with yum).
I am using PV linux images.
- I am using the source for xen 3.0.4 from Xensource and I built Xen +
Dom0 from source, and booted Dom0.
- I then downloaded the fedora6 file system images from jailtime.org
and booted the DomU using the kernel from the step above.
- When I run "yum update" or "yum install gcc" in DomU, this is what I
get from the logs :
[root@fc6_pristine ~]# yum install gcc

NFSroot is acting strange in CentOS5
Hello all,
I have observed a problem with a diskless PXE client I am attempting
to configure. PXE/NFS/DHCP/TFTPd server is running CentOS5.1 and the
Diskless workstation's root and kernel was extracted from a CentOS5.1
(custom kernel due to setting to enable Root File System support).
Problem: When the diskless client boots and logs in I notice that my
root user is being squashed, even if I

Tired of Fedora, shopping for a new OS. Upgrade from F8 ? CentOS kernel versions ?
I've been a RH/Fedora guy since the RH8 days. When Fedora came along, I
moved to it, but its been a bit painful beta testing software all the
time. I ran Ubuntu for a while, but I found their package management
to be difficult... I do a lot of technical work, development and loading
and building special stuff. I much prefer RPMs over other methods of
package distribution.

ikely will not be very attractive to the audience :(

[PATCH] turn off writable page tables
At OLS I gave a talk on some of the Xen scalability inhibitors, and one
of these was writable page tables. We went over why the feature does
not scale, but just as important, we found that the uniprocessor case
does not provide any advantage either. These tests were done on x86_64,
so I wanted to run the 1-way test on 32 bit to show the same problem.
So, I have run with writable PTs and
