Is it feasable?
...nticating users NOT locally... is that possible?
I'd like to know some things. My user authentication and authorization
data is created on kerberos, afs and ldap servers. I'd like to create
users just on samba, not modifying users locally on each machine...
would be quite crazy (and not feasable... ~500 users...).
Can samba help me? In what way?
I know I can create an NT4 domain with samba alone. Good. Can samba tell
the windows client to use \\AFS or have I to export a drive for afs? Are
there issues in doing that?
If I specify ``\\AFS\cellname\users\username'' as the profil...

[LLVMdev] Linking on Windows with LLVM tools
Hi,
Can the tools in LLVM create a Win32 exe or dll file? Or does LLVM
still rely on Binutils and GCC for that? Is it
possible/feasable/wanted that the LLVM toolchain could do this?
Thanks,
Ruben

R on netbooks et al?
...ed to get one of these to mainly run R on it. Processor power and hard disk space seem to be ok. What I wonder is the handling and feel with respect to R.
Has anyone here installed or is running R on one of these, and if so, what is your experience? Would it be more of a nice looking gadget than a feasable platform to do some stats on?
Many thanks,
Bernd

Rails with no direct database access?
....
Should I even use Rails for something like this? Or is using Rails
for something without an RDMS not worth it? Is replacing or
subclassing ActiveRecord (which I heard is what I''d be doing) very
time consuming? Worth it? I''d like to use Rails, but if this
architecture is not feasable using Rails, then are there any other
ruby frameworks that anyone could recommend?
Thanks in advance!

Shorewall and P2P traffic
...I have just upgraded to a new satellite internet provider. I have two network cards - one with a public IP connected to my satellite router, and the second network card with private IP into my switch for the LAN. Shorewall firewall
My old satellite system is not being used.
Would it be possible/feasable to install a third network card into my Fedora Core 2 server, and then direct all known P2P traffic coming from the LAN down the old satellite system? Could this be done? How can I do it?
Thanks,
David.

creation time stamps for ext4 ?
Hi,
I would like to know if there are any plans to introduce a creation
timestamp in future ext3/4 versions. Having a 4th timestamp saving the
creation time would be very good for projekts like Samba for example.
It would be important that creation time can also be set manually
later on by some system call. Systems like FreeBSD's UFS and Solais'
ZFS already support creation times.

PAT problem
...the client computer is told to connect to the
Shorewall computer at port 10000. The Shorewall computer accepts the
connection and does PAT and connects to 10.3.1.1 at port 20000. If the
client connects to port 10001, the Shorewall computer should connect
to 10.3.1.2 at port 20000 instead.
Is this feasable or is there a better way to tackle this?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Best regards,
Albert.

Vorbis decoder chip: Specs needed
...ing a player with it would require external hardware.
At this point, I'm just evaluating the feasability of doing this, and as
such, I need some information about the decoding process. (I realize I
can search the code, but at this point, I would like to minimize effort
in case it's not feasable).
Things I need to know (all are specific to the decoder only):
* does decoding vorbis use (and/or require) floating-point math, and
if so, what precision (16/32/64 bit?)
* what kinds of mathematical operations (in general) are required to
decode vorbis?
* I know vorbis uses MDCT...

using a Gigaset SX440isdn on a Diva 4BRI ?
Hello,
I just received a couple SX440isdn phones and was wondering if they can
be plugged into a Diva 4BRI port in NT mode and work with
asterisk+chan_capi?
I know they probably work fine with mutliHFC cards with either bristuff
of chan_misdn but since I have some spare Divas, I was curious about
their potential as phone ports.
The Diva's 3 and 4 ports are already set to NT mode at boot

Transform Rails site into DVD
I''m considering implementing a PHP based site that display videos with quite
some database logic to Rails. Now we were considering publishing the site
on DVD too.
Is that possible (e.g. with RubyScript2Exe)? How fast is database
performance going to be? Currently there are movies inside the database but
we can extract them if necessary. The database scheme is quite large and
the number

OGG question:
Here's a question I have: My understanding is that OGG is a
'containter' format, allowing for multiple streams of multiple types, of
which Vorbis is only one.
My question is this: Is it feasable (and, considering licencing,
leagal) to create an .ogg file that contains, say Indeo or Cinepak
video? (In other words, use the ogg bitstream to store the data rather
than .avi). Personally, I think this might be a fairly interesting way
to learn to code for the ogg project: Implement pre-e...

Question: Using Windows XP under Linux?
I'm curious about the feasability and possibility of using Wine as a
basis for running as much MS code under Linux as possible.
Let me explain:
Windows XP (and most of it's ilk before it) don't support remote
booting, that is using a diskless workstation and booting the OS from
the network. Linux, of course readily provides that functionality.
However, switching to linux is not

Implementing samba3/LDAP system across several schools
Hi All,
I am looking into the feasability of using Samba/LDAP for domain
control across several schools in my area, and would be interested to
hear of anyone who has any experience/thoughts on how this could work.
The schools share a community learning resource centre, and I am
looking for ways for all users to be able to log in at their own
schools, and also at the learning resource

R on AIX (>4.2)
Hi,
I'm determined to get R compiling & running on a machine running AIX
4.2. I've seen previous emails in the archive about this topic. The
main obstacle is getting dynamic loading to work, but it works for Tcl
and hence is feasable.
Questions:
- is anybody _currently_ working with R on AIX?
- why have previous fixes to the sources not been introduced into
the released versions?
Thanks,
-tom

S/R/RWeb/ODBC
I'm looking for an optimal approach to access Oracle databases via RWeb
applications. I'm new to R but familiar with programming functions and web
pages for the S+ Statserver. I'm now going through the motions of migrating
S+/Statserver applications to R/RWeb as a feasability exercise. I can access
databases using ODBC directly in R or S, and using Statserver, but I have
not succeeded

As you know, we need our linker!
Please look into the slide in http://llvm.org/devmtg/2010-11/

[LLVMdev] Mips nomicromips?
Hi,
I've decided to switch from the NetBSD standard library to the musl library
(http://www.etalabs.net/musl/) for my ELLCC (http://ellcc.org) cross compiler
project. During my musl feasability study I made a Mips port of musl. A day or
two ago, just to make things interesting, I updated to the LLVM TOT (r158294).
I started getting assembler warnings about ".set nomicromips".
