What's your favourite R book that doesn't have R in the title?
Hello All,
?
Recently, I discovered that there are appear to be some good R related books that don't have R in the title. For example, I'm currently reading Gellman and Hill's book Data Analysis using Regression and Multilevel/Hierarchical Models. The book uses R (and BUGS) but doesn't appear to be on the CRAN list of R books.?I stumbled across it by accident.

How to enable R on-line search in HTML help
I use FireFox as my favourite web browser on my Mac OS/X 10.5
I double-checked that Java and Java scripts are enabled for FireFox. Nevertheless, I cannot use R on-line search help.
I called Apple Tech Assistance but they do not support FireFox. We tried to set Saphari as the favourite browser but
evidently R does not support it.
Does any one knw of a workaround this annoying problem ?

lmer Error: Downdated X'X is not positive definite
Hi,
This is the first time I've posted, and I apologize if I formulate this
incorrectly.
I am analyzing data from a multi-region carrot variety trial. 35 varieties
of carrots were grown in 3 randomized complete blocks in organic and
conventional fields in Wisconsin, Indiana, Washington, and California. In
this example I am comparing the heights of the carrot tops at harvest.

Repository issue with R 2.8.0 in Ubuntu 8.10
Dear List,
I'm not an expert on Linux but I have been using Ubuntu and R sice two
years ago.
I've just installed Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex (8.10, Kernel:
2.6.27-7-generic) from the scratch and then installed R, following the
instruction given on:
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/README, and everything
worked fine.
However, after the installation I realized that the installed

"dumb" SATA controller recommendation
Just wondering if any 4.2 users out there have a favourite "dumb" PCI
controller to add a couple of SATA ports to a motherboard that doesn't
include SATA support. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just 2 SATA
ports that a recent vintage kernel will recognize without a lot of
configuration gymnastics. The intended use is for relatively light
weight internet browser

mysql based adressbook with agi and web interface ?
Hi,
I'm looking for adressbook that could easily integrate into Asterisk, so it
should:
- have agi script to search for caller id name
- have fields for notes on previous contacts (for CRM spawning of FOP)
- have web interface to edit entries easily ...
Any advice, pointers ? What is your favourite address book to use with
Asterisk ?
Regards,
Rob.

REMINDER R-1.8.1 beta
R-1.8.1 has now reached the beta stage with one week left before
release. This just to remind you that this would be a good time to
give the new version a spin and see whether your favourite bugs have
been cleared out.

VMWare ESXi & CentOS5.4
I have a brand new Dell Poweredge T310 server with 4G ram and 1TB
raid-5 hard drive in it. I Really only need to be able to run a copy
of CentOS 5.4 on it, but I'm wondering if in the build process should
I stick on ESXi 4 and then run CentOS as a vm? This would give me the
options to roll out other VM's if I want over the life of the server
(which I likely won't need) but the

Quick survey for Speex 1.2
Hi everyone,
As you may have guess, Speex 1.2 is slowly approaching, though there's
still a lot left to do so I can't say how long it'll take. I thought
this was the right time to ask if there's anything missing or that can
be improved to make 1.2 better. At this point, it can't be anything
major, but there are still some changes that are possible, e.g:
- Improving some

Unable to POST after suspend
Hi,
I just tried the live CD for CentOS 5.0 on a desktop computer and
decided to see if suspend worked. It seems it did, but I'm unable to
start the machine again.
It's a DIY system with an Asus K8V-X motherboard[1], an AMD Clawhammer
3200+ and 1 GB of Kingston ECC RAM. The system has been perfectly stable
despite being utterly abused on a daily basis for almost 3 years.

Brazilian Keyboard and special characters !

I am very happy with my 20001026 wine, running my favourites
windows applications. Unfortunately, I still have a minor problem:
My keyboard in perfectly recognized as the Brazilian ABNT layout,
I had to change something in the keyboard.c file, but now is ok.
So when I start my application I can get every character I need, but

New blog application post slugs
Hello. I''m creating my own RESTful blog app. I am wondering about
creating post slugs. I think Wordpress creates a slug at post
creation time and stores the string in the database, then uses that
for URLs.
I read about the acts_as_sluggable strategy (http://
agilewebdevelopment.com/plugins/acts_as_sluggable) but I don''t like
having a number (the ID) in the URL.

[4.0 Release] Schedule and call for testers
Dear everyone,
There's still plenty of time left, but I'd like to get the schedule
set before folks start disappearing for the holidays.
Note that this release will also switch us to the new versioning
scheme where the major version is incremented for each major release
(i.e., when the 4.0 branch is created, trunk will become 5.0).
If you'd like to help providing binaries and
