Optimal File Permissions for Shared Access Between Windows and Linux
Hi Rowland,
Thanks to your guidance, I?ve set up permissions for all directories and
files under |/mnt/shared| as follows:
* *Directories* have ```|drwxr-xr-x| permissions and are owned by
|root:root|.```
* *Files* are set to ```|rw-------|, also with |root:root```|
ownership, except for executables, which have the necessary |rwx|
permissions.
I?d like to ensure

Optimal File Permissions for Shared Access Between Windows and Linux
Rowland,
I realized I forgot to mention a few details about specific folders with unique permissions in /mnt/shared that I need to preserve in /mnt/shared/nas:
1. /mnt/shared/video_surveillance: Originally, this folder had drwxrwx--- permissions, with reolink as the owner and surveillance as the group. However, since the surveillance group has been removed, only john_johnk and reolink need

Samba - Cups - WinXP SP2 Client
Hi All,
I have a samba Server 3.0.14 installed on Ubuntu. I also have cups
1.1.23 installed.
I have migrated an existing nt4 domain using this howto:
http://de.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2570211
Samba is my PDC now, and no more windows servers are on the net.
I have a network Printer Kyocera 1800+ Mita which is correctly
configured via cups. I have preconfigured 3

some upper case letters with accent don't appear in file names
...but on the samba mount if I get a directory listing, it gets listed without
the accent on the uppercase e-grave, whether or not I specify a codepage in
the smbmount options:
LETENDREAGNES_6280f.rtf
and if I try to do a simple operation such as cat on that file:
cat: /mnt/avocat/avocat/testament/factures/LETENDREAGNES_6280f.rtf: No such
file or directory
Other uppercase accented letters such as ?, ?, ? and ? don't have that
problem and therefore appear correctly on the samba share mounted with a
codepage option.
