problems with 3.7.1p1 on IRIX (again)
Hi, I've seen a few messages re. problems with 3.7.1p1 on IRIX 6.5... I'm using 6.5.19 and having no trouble compiling, installing and starting, but sshd just closes the connection with no explanation. debug/verbose modes don't seem to give any clues. Darren Tucker suggested defining BROKEN_GETADDRINFO in config.h, but I find that compilation then fails (assuming I've implemented

Resuming the discussion of establishing an LLVM code of conduct
.... Depending on your *point of view*, from that point forwards, things would roll down in completely opposite paths. If you don't discuss what is and what isn't harassment, or if you're not prepared to understand that communications will breakdown very easily, then you're taking an extremist point of view in regards to the code and giving every one that has had fears so far, the right to do so. I'm not saying *you* are, but that is the consequence if you (or anyone else) would have been. Now, assuming that he was joking, that would have been bad, but how bad? It would depend on ho...

Linux/Samba vs NT
I was having a discussion with a MS person about the performance of NT. I got this reply: ---------- Forwarded message ---------- By the way, I looked into that claim that Linux could outperform NT server, and my source claimed that the test was done on different hardware (i.e. it was rigged) and that Linux still loses to NT on equivalent HW, although "it has gotten closer." Do you

Vorbis license terms? (fwd)
...RMS openly condemns any commercialization of software. He also equates being paid for writing software with prostitution. He's not a halfway kind of guy. The Open Source movement needs RMS, but that doesn't mean he should be trusted with the kingdom, the same way I wouldn't trust any extremist, fundamentalist or intellectual who consistently chooses elegant (but disasterously incorrect) logic over the very minimum of common sense. > I'm afraid I don't worship on the altar on non-forking. Political Spam sent through several CentOS mailing lists
The CentOS team likes to offer an apology for the political spam mails which went through our mail servers earlier today. Due to the nature of mailing list software for public discussion groups, there aren't that many security measures which can be taken to check which mails are supposed to get through and which mails aren't. Total safety can only be had by a moderation of all lists -

Non-GPL C (or R) inside of a package
R-devel, I am interested in creating a package that requires non-GPL'd (commercial) C code to work. In essence it is a single .c file with no use of R headers (all .C callable functions). For example's sake: 1 #include <stdio.h> 2 3 void test (int *a) { 4 *a = 101; 5 } The package isn't destined for CRAN, and I realize that this isn't R-legal, but looking for

I don't begin to understand how this might work; I suppose the MP3 degradation only applies to MS encoding software... *shrug* this may, however, provide a good leveraging point for Vorbis. have fun dongoodman
