Counting the occurence of each unique "charecter string"
LS, I would really like to know how to count the frequency/occurrence of chachters inside a dataset. I am working with extreemly large datasets of forest inventory data with a large variety of different species inside it. Each row inside the dataframe represents one individual tree and the simplified dataframe looks something like this: num species dbh 1 sp1

Null and Alternate hypothesis for Significance test
Hi, I had a question about specifying the Null hypothesis in a significance test. Advance apologies if this has already been asked previously or is a naive question. I have two samples A and B, and I want to test whether A and B come from the same distribution. The default Null hypothesis would be H0: A=B But since I am trying to prove that A and B indeed come from the same distribution, I think

file upload directory structure
hello, I am building an application where different users will be uploading multiple documents and I would like some advice about how to save the document into the file system. What i know so far: I have a document model and it has some attributes about what type of document it is, when it was uploaded, the url (or filename) of the document, and more. I guess my questions are: Would you

Red Alert under WINE
I've heard a lot of people talk about being able to run Red Alert under Wine, but I don't seem to be able to do it. I have installed red alert to /windows/D/wine/games/redalert using # wine -winver win95 /cdrom/setup.exe This then runs through the installer OK, but when I try to start RA using: # cd /windows/D/wine/games/redalert # wine -winver win95 ra.exe After a short time, the

comparing poisson distributions
Hello all, I would like to compare two sets of count data which form Poisson distributions. I'd like to generate some sort of p-value of the likely-hood that the distributions are the same. Thanks in advance for your advice. Cheers, Mark Mark Gosink, Ph.D. Head of Computational Biology Scripps Florida 5353 Parkside Drive - RFA Jupiter, FL 33458 tel: 561-799-8921 fax:

Changing the IP Address of a Samba AD DC doesn't work - samba_dnsupdate crashes

With Fedora Samba versions 3.5 and 4.5, it does not exist. The 'testparm' most certainly does and I agree with using it. I just recently set up my new Fedora 25 box and used it after

randomForest Species Distribution Modelling
Hi, I appologise if this is a rudimentary question and long winded but I just wanted to let ye know where I'm comming from. I'm new to R and I'm trying to use the 'randomForest' package to classify and predict. The Error message that is troubling me is: > pr<-predict(predictors,rf1, ext=ext) Error in x[...] <- m : NAs are not allowed in subscripted assignments In

Analysis of pre-calculated frequency distribution?
Sorry for the dumb question, but I cant work out how to do this. Quick version, How can I re-bin a given frequency distribution using new breaks without reference to the original data? Given distribution has integer valued bins. Long version, I am loading a frequency table into R from a file. The original data is very large, and it is a very simple process to get a frequency distribution

Speed up R
Dear R Users, I hope that there is someone who has an experience with a problem that I describe below and will help me. I must buy new desktop computer and I'm wondering which processor to choose if my only aim is to speed up R. I would like to reduce a simulation time - sometimes it takes days. I consider buying one of them (I'm working under Win XP 32 bit): 1. Intel Core2 Duo E6700

scatterplot of 100000 points and pdf file format
Hi, I want to draw a scatter plot with 1M and more points and save it as pdf. This makes the pdf file large. So i tried to save the file first as png and than convert it to pdf. This looks OK if printed but if viewed e.g. with acrobat as document figure the quality is bad. Anyone knows a way to reduce the size but keep the quality? /E -- Dipl. bio-chem. TEST 3 If you get a "connection refused" response then the smbd server may not be running. If you installed it in inetd.conf then you probably edited that file incorrectly. If you installed it as a daemon then check that it is running, and check that the netbios-ssn port is in a LISTEN state using "netstat -a". Note: You have xinetd not inetd on the redhat box.
