ext4 mount fails with "resize inode not valid" after a reboot
With kernel 2.6.30-rc2-git6 and prior I am having problems mounting ext4 partitions after reboot. ext4 in CentOS 5.6?
I'm sure many are running ext4 FS's in production, but just want to be re-assured that there are not currently any major issues before starting a new project that looks like it will be using ext4. I've previously been using xfs but the software for this project requires ext3/ext4. I'm always very cautious before ju...

CentOS 7.6 external USB dmesg issue
...msung SSD disk. (two of them) for backup. I tried the first one and had an issue, I tried the second one and got the same issue. Am I doing something wrong ? I find it hard to believe the SSD (both) are bad. I plugged in the USB 3.1 adapter, I fdisk /dev/sdd, n, p, default, default, w. then mkfs.ext4 -j /dev/sdd1, then just mount and rsync. premature question on 5.6
What will be the correct way to migrate ext3 to ext4 going from 5.5 to 5.6? Will something after the update ask if you want to migrate the file systems? Looking forward to some file system speed ups with large files. Thanks Jerry

5.3 and ext4
Is 5.3 and ext4 going to be safe? I have seen a couple reports of data loss using ext4? Has this already been fixed? What does the list recommend? ext3/ ext4? Thought maybe today we would start seeing 5.3 showing up... Looking forward to it. Jerry

Ext4 File System: newbee question
Hello, I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 and it has ext4 filesystem. I have one very elementary question. When I say my filesystem is "ext4", which directories are part of it. I mean from the root I can see some directories such as /proc, /tmp, /dev etc. Are they store on the disk which have formatted with ext4, of certain files resides somewhe...

unofficial ext3 and ext4 compare
.... This includes some large 12Gig images and other files. I had been using ext3 on an external USB disk for part of the process. Under ext3 doing "rsync -a /home /mnt/external_back/backup.jun.27.2011" it took 200 minutes. I took the same computer, same external HD and reformatted it for ext4 (mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdd1). I then started the same rsync as above. The time was reduced to 170 minutes. This is on Centos 5.6 x86_64. I did notice the [ext4-dio-unwrit] process that starts up. One process for each core. I was concerned when they did not go away. But google says that is normal. :)...

Is ext4 safe for a production server?
I am about to install a new server running CentOS 5.4. The server will contain pretty critical data that we can't afford to corrupt. I would like to benefit from the extra speed and features of a ext4 filesystem but I don't have any experience with it. Is there some member of the list who can enlighten me on whether ext4 is mature enough to be used on a production server without too much risk? Thank you!
