[PATCH] Using qstr in ext3_get_parent()
Hi In ext3_get_parent(), quick string (struct qstr) can do the job, in place of declaring a dentry on stack. Following patch does this and saves few bytes on kernel stack. Instability with later 4.x kernels?
I have an Athlon with about 10 HDDs plugged in, primarily to do Disk2Disk backups. Some drives are PATA, some are SATA, some are USB. A strange concoction, but it's been relatively stable for some 4-5 years, despite numerous upgrades and so on. It's been running CentOS 4 for a long, long time. (years) Recently, I've started to have problems with its stability, and after 2 weeks

VFS: brelse: Trying to free free buffer
I got this error in my log reports this morning, from the machine I use as my firewall. This is the first time it has occurred, but the machine is running a very new kernel: Linux fendrian.rimspace.net 2.6.0-test11-fendrian #1 Wed Dec 10 22:25:59 EST 2003 i486 GNU/Linux The kernel was up to date as per the CVS repository at that point. This was just before the CDROM_SEND_PACKET IOCTL fix went

How to manually mount LVM partition
Hello list, For some strange reason, the hard drive on one of our servers crashed. The hard drive was using LVM and it was sending these messages during boot-up: EXT3-fs error (device dm-0): ext3_find_entry: reading directory ... EXT3-fs error (device dm-0): ext3_set_inode_loc: unable to read inode block= ... I want to be able to at least access the logical volumes inside that hard drive. How

copy old CF image to new CF device
I am using an 8G CF card. (I was using dd to duplicate the card with different size cards I was advised not to). So I wrote the script below which basically: 1) runs fdisk to setup the device 2) makes the ext3 file system and the swap 3) mounts my old image "/" filesystem and the new partition 4) tar and untar the directories 5) run grub on it 6) set label for "/" After I

Troubles with CentOS5 and 3ware RAID controller
Folks, Since approx. a half year I have run two servers with CentOS4, all was running very stable. Then I upgraded to CentOS5 (fresh install). The servers are running quite unstable since the upgrade. The system is freezing after short uptime. I suspect the driver for the 3ware controller, because I got such error messages: 3w-xxxx: scsi0: Character ioctl (0x1f) timed out, resetting card.

ext3 and ls in a deletted directory
Hi, With kernel 2.4.10, when I do $ mkdir foo; cd foo; rmdir ../foo; ls then ls becomes zombie. $ ps xau|grep ls liu 596 0.0 0.0 148 88 ? D 12:03 0:00 ls This does not happen with 2.4.10 on an ext2 filesystem, nor with 2.4.9/ext3. The command cd instead of ls is OK. Distribution is Slackware 8.0 and the kernels are stock ones. Liu

oops 2.2.19 ext3 0.0.6b prune_dcache
Hi, i am seeing an oops (every couple of days) on a UP PII system with SCSI disks, Kernel 2.2.19 and ext3 0.0.6b. All oops output passed the klogd thus i cant anymore pipe it through ksymoops - I ensured klogd got the correct System.map so the result should be reliable. Kernel Ooops probably in conjunction with lvm
Hello, I've got a rather strange setup over here with about 6 ext3 partitions, one 50gig lvm partition and one 2 gig software-raid1 partition running under a heavily patched 2.4.10 kernel (various netfilter patches, freeswan, current lvm patch (1.0.1-rc4 and current ext3 patch). Furthermore I have all of those neccessary filesystem tools, so don't tell me to upgrade :-) The machine was

Kernel panic in ext3:dx_probe, help needed
This may or may not be ext3 related but I am trying to find any pointers which might help me. I got a number of HP Proliant DL380 g5 with a P400 controller and also two qla2400 cards. The OS is RedHat EL4 U5 x86_64. Every time during reboot these systems panic after the last umount and I believe before the cciss driver is getting unloaded. The last messages I am able to see are: md: stopping

I?m running centos 4.3 (2.6.9-22.ELsmp) on a box ,and running windows XP on vmware 5.5.1. I have 3 scsi disk on this server,sda for linux system,sdb for vmware disk,and sdc for other. Resently I found that something wrong with the second disk,the guest os windowsxp copying files from a samba server(another box) to it?s disk,and for some time,maybe 5hours,3or1hours, the kernel said that sdb is
