automatically user expiery
Hi,
my sambauser accounts should expire automatically after 90 days. What's
the best way to do that? I'm looking for something similar to the passwd
-e option. But the passwd -e options seems to have no effect on samba
accounts. Any ideas?
system: debian sarge, samba 3.0.14a
Thanks,

Will Asterisk do well in this application?
...omer looking for an automated way to provide his customers
information.
He found some windows software called Active Call Center - but I believe
that he did the 40 day trial and it crashed his windows machine to much.
So he wants something that can do a similar task running on linux.
The Users expierience should go something like this
One of his customers calls in the IVR asks for his account number and
password - based on that it does database lookups for several reports
and reads those back to the customer with text to speech.
I'm not sure if the customer should be able to change account...

connect asterisk to ISDN in China
Hi,
I plan to install asterisk and connect it to telco
through ISDN in China.
I'd love to know if the ISDN standard in China has any
difference than in America before I buy the digium
card.
anybody has experience in it? or anybody who installed
asterisk with ISDN in asia can share their
expierience?
Or, can anybody give me some links to educate me ISDN
knowledge about the difference in China? (My heard
there is something different there, but i dont know
the details.)
Thanks!!!!

Hi Martin,
MS-Windows users here sometimes make the expierience to become files of
length zero when something on windows crashes.
They often have many files open and after a crash they don't realize
that parts of their work gots lost.
Nightly a backup-server using rsync, copies those zero length files
and thereby destroyes their files backed up the day...

There's no threat.
I just want to point out that you're asking for help and you're [perhaps unfortunately] dependant on the good-will of those offering free support.
If you want to get help that's more tailored to you and your desired environment, you can pay for support. Sernet offers

That's what I expected, too. Since then I made some experiences. I built
samba 4.3.6 with a static vfs_acl_xattr module. It is builtin alright,
it is listed under "Builtin modules" at the output of "smbd -b".
Then:

There has been a change in the configuration/behavior of modules and
their stacking and that change is not well documented. In previous
versions of Samba that exact same acl_xattr module could be d...

Mysql databases from old system?
Last week I had a hard disk failure on my CentOS server.
I managed to re-install CentOS on a new disk.
I have the old mysql databases from /var/lib/mysql .
Can I just move them to my new disk?
Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

My expierience is different. I do this for round about 10 years in NT
and AD style samba domains and have had no problems.
Sure "authenticated users", "local system" and all "groups" which are
managed by the Windows OS will never work on an unix like OS. But groups

well, not sure - in fact you can configure each share with different
"vfs objects" and so configuration likely still is needed - i referred
more to my expierience with httpd where you don't need "LoadModule"
lines for static compiled modules
at the end i would say it's not worth at all to spend time with that
micro-optimization if there is any optimization at all and stick with
defaults

how to know when files have finished ftping? -- antair restored
Here's a thought: what about doing an lsof? If a file is still being written by ftpd it should be open for writing.

If local Dovecot stops working, check lo
Hi all,
You probably know this already, but just in case...
Let's say you have your email client getting mail from a Dovecot server
on the same computer (which is a really good way of doing things, by
the way). Then one day your email client starts saying "connection
refused" after a suitably long timeout. So then, to find out where
things are getting stuck, you do the following

How to know when files have finished FTPing?
Hello:
I have a server set up a CentOS 5 server for a client
to push files onto using FTP.
I have a cron job to process the files and
move them to another directory.
Sometimes, the cron job executes while the client
is still uploading a file (Some of them can be large)
and I get a partial file.
Is there a way to tell when a file has finished
uploading?
I am using the vsftpd daemon installed

Dovecot, Thunderbird and messages in wrong folder
Hello,
Sometimes it happens that messages (e.g. one or two) appear in wrong
folders in Thunderbird (latest version, also past versions, different
computers, also Earlybird). When I repair the folder
(folder/Settings/Repair Folder) in Thunderbird, the folder is correct then.
It happens on my new server with Fedora 20, Dovecot 2.2.13 and Maildir
but it also happened on my old server with

More than 50% performance decrease.
I just installed Xubuntu 8.04, Wine 0.9.60 and Warcraft 3.
Ive set it so it uses OpenGL and in game i get less than 30fps with everything on low and a low resolution. On Windows i can run it on medium with 1280x800 at 60fps.
Im new to Xubuntu/linux so i dont know what could be causing it.
Is this expected from Wine?

Problems with Samba 3.4 under Opensolaris snv_111b

The user exists then as created by the corresponding ldapadd script,
but the samba related attributes are missing. I use the ldapscripts
from sf.net. My ldap stuff in smb.conf is shown below.
Has anybody some expierience how to make samba/ldap/M$ ready for production?
Any hints would be greatly appreciated
Best regards

No, its not nitpicking, the OP has an AD DC that is working as
recommended, but the OP wants to also use it as a fileserver, so he
needs to configure it a bit more. The only problem he really has is,
he used the wrong
