Using group in with find in an ActiveRecord appropriately
I''m playing around with the Practical Rails Projects code, and was attempting to make a change for graphing data differently using groupings. Basically the code went from: total_weight = @exercise.activities.collect {|e| e.repetitions * e.resistance} workout_dates = @exercise.activities.collect {|e| e.workout.date.to_s} To: total_weight =

Setting optimizer in lme
I am using R 2.7.0 on a linux platform. I am trying to reproduce a 2002 example using lme from the nlme library. I want to change the otimizer from the default (nlminb) to optim. Specifically, this is what I am trying to do: R> library(nlme) R> library(car) # for data only R> data(Blackmoor) # from car R> Blackmoor$log.exercise <- log(Blackmoor$exercise + 5/60, 2) R>

Looking for a good disk exerciser
...d backup my data and replace the disk (!). I still have not made any irreversible data transfers to this drive, and I have some time yet to take it back, but I'd like to know for sure that it needs it, or at least have some reasonable evidence of failure. What is a good program out there that exercises a disk to give some assurance of errors or lack thereof? Thanks. Stuck noobie: XRC/xrcise woes
Hi, I''m teaching myself to use wxRuby and DialogBlocks to create a front end for a Ruby program I wrote. And I''m hopelessly stuck! In DialogBlocks (or indeed wxFormBuilder, which gives me the same problem) I can create a widget, give that widget a new id and class name (in the example I created below, text_box1 and CaseChangeTextCtrl1, respectively), and then add a module which

methods(`|`) lists all functions?
Dear R-Devel, I was attempting an exercise in Hadley Wickam's book "Advanced R". The exercise is to find the generic with the greatest number of methods. I found that 'methods(`|`)' produces a list of length 2506, in R 3.3.1. Similar behavior is found in 3.4.0. It seems to include all functions and methods. I imagine something is being passed to "grep" without

Solutions to exercises in "Introductory Statistics with R" OR Intro. to R Book Suggestions with Solutions Available
Hi-- I'm trying to teach myself R using Peter Dalgaard's "Introductory Statistics with R." Does anyone know if there are solutions available for the exercises? I'm really just hoping to learn by going through exercises and checking myself, so alternatively, does anyone know of an introductory textbook to R that does have answers available either in the back or online? Much thanks, Ben [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
