Is CIFS HA Aware ?
Good Day,
We use a lot of DFS Shares (Windows) across our Linux Servers. The DFS
Shares are setup in a Cluster. Over the weekend we did a DR excercise which
included shutting down one of the Servers that hosted the DFS Shares.
What we found is that any Linux Server that had associated itself with the
DFS Server that was shutdown did not try and connect to the remaining
Server that was up.

Very Slow Gower Similarity Function
Hello,
I am a relatively new user of R. I have written a basic function to calculate
the Gower similarity function. I was motivated to do so partly as an excercise
in learning R, and partly because the existing option (vegdist in the vegan
package) does not accept missing values.
I think I have succeeded - my function gives me the correct values. However, now
that I'm starting to use it with

State of JACK support i9n Asterisk
Hello everyone!
I haven't seen anything new about the JACK support in Asterisk and I was
wondering, if anyone has experience with a current release of Asterisk, JACK
and mISDN/googletalk etc. I'm thinking of installing a new version
(havingcurrently 1.60-beta9. But the excercise would be pointless, if it
doesn't help.
Kindly yours

Is wine *always* mapping threads onto processes? (Was: Re: multiple inst
Yup. You're right.
1. Those are not processes since Linux 'ps' and 'top' reports threads just
as it reports processes.
2. Threads reports the total amount of RAM allocated to the process it belongs
to. (Excercise: what else could it report??)

Undefined Method error - help request
Good morning All -
I am working on a time tracking application as a learning excercise

When loading my view, I get an error: ''undefined method

when logging is on just seems wrong.
However if you would like to *also* keep the HVA in the iotlb
to avoid doing extra translations, that sounds like a
reasonable optimization.
3. it also means that the hva->gpa translation only runs
when logging is enabled. That is a rarely excercised
path so any bugs there will not be caught.
So I really would like us long term to move away from
hva->gpa translations, keep them for legacy userspace only
but I don't really mind how we do it.

*what* to test?
So I dig rspec and BDD, of course. I thought that Dave''s Google Video
was a great intro () -- even if it was a bit heavy on theory and a bit
loose on the nuts and bolts. But I don''t see anyone sufficiently
answering the big question:
What do you test? How do you define higher level and lower level
behaviors that should have tests written for them?

[R 1.4] WARNING: --max-vsize=8000M : too large and ignored
Why is there a limit on the amount of vector heap one can use ?
I am operating on a 16GB SGI (O2000) machine.
Furthermore, is there any way to make R using multiple threads ?
Regards
Luca
p.s. I understand that I might be pushing a bit R beyond its most common
operation set. However, also understanding where the limits of R are, is
a good excercise.

sample variogram construction
Hi
Im attempting to build a sample variogram for 300 obersvations
of longitudinal data. So what I need to do is compute the half
squared differences between pairs of residuals (for instance
if a subject has 4 obersvations, this is 4 choose 2 paird differences)
for each subject.
Also, then I need the corresponding time differences within each
individual. So the end result will be a 300 by 2

sharing bookmarks with rsync
I would like to have my computer at home and my
computer at work to share the same bookmarks. My idea
was to have each of the computers sync with a server's
bookmark file. If the client has a newer file than the
server it would upload it, if the client has an older
file it would download it. I already have the
authentication keys set up and want to do it over ssh.
Would this be one way to
