smbldap-tools, setting password on command line?
Hi, the smbldap tools are a great thing to have, thanks a lot! I just wonder if it would be possible to set a password via the command line, like: smbldap-passwd.pl testuser1 not24get I have to create accounts for several hundreds people every year and give them an immutable password. So long I do that with smbpasswd, ldappasswd and a tiny script around these tools. I tried smbldap-passwd.pl

Veto files applied per group
Hi guys, I use "veto files = /.mp3/.mpg/" etc. on the [homes] share to prevent users from storing media files on a Samba server in the home directories. My client now wishes to make this restriction apply to users who are members of only certain groups. E.g. This restriction must apply to users who are members of the "Students" group and not apply to users in the

OpenSUSE 11.1 with OpenLDAP => some surprises (ldap.conf, nss-ldap.conf, nsswitch.conf)
Hi, this has nothing directly to do with samba, but there might be some people who try to use samba with (Open)LDAP on OpenSUSE 11.1 like me. Between 10.2 and 11.1 the nss_ldap configuration has changed a bit. The file which configures the access to ldap is now /etc/nss-ldap.conf and seems to have the identical layout as the former /etc/ldap.conf. Also needed is the "nslcd"

Server crashes every hour at mass logout, smbd at 100% CPU
Hi my server crashes every 90 minutes. There is no helpfull message in any logfile, the only thing i can see is that smbd consumes 100% CPU. The server hangs completely, no access to console, no networking. This might have something to do with user logout. This server stands in a school and about 150 pupils log out after each lesson. I assume it has nothing to with printing, as printing

Redirect connections originating from the firewall host
Hello, I need to redirect web traffic originating from the firewall host itself addressed to the webserver x.x.x.x (in the net zone) to be redirected to an ip address on the local net interface of the firewall. How is this possible with Shorewall? I couldn''t find anything like that in the Documentation or Faq. PS: Pls cc me, as i am not subscribed to this list. Regards Stephan

How to test the fileserver performance with smbtorture (why are my "net use" that slow)?
Hi, I have some problems here with slow logins. I noticed that the login-script runs very slow, i.e. one "net use" takes up to five seconds. I updated from samba-3.0.21b to 3.0.21c this Saturday, so I don't know if this problem is actually solved. I it possible to test that with smbtorture, so I can verify that the fileserver is working correctly? I already tested the network

vfs object recycle: could two shares use the same repository?
Hi, i use the vfs-object "recycle" on the [homes] share and defined recycle:repository = /backup/recycle/%G/%U/.recycle. What happens, when using the same repository path for another share, e.g. [data]. Could this lead to data loss in the waste bin? I could of course branch into "/backup/recycle/%G/%U/.recycle/homes" and "/backup/recycle/%G/%U/.recycle/data" but i

How can I create a ntlm-hash with Java
Hi i would like to create all my LDAP-Entries with a Java servlet. The only thing that stops me are the ntlm hashes (sambaLMPassword and sambaNTPassword). Can anybody tell me if there are any Java sources that create these values from a cleartext password or where in the samba sources they are calculated so I can port the algorithm to java? I searched the net for jacifs, which I heard should

encoding a ntlm-hash from cleartext passwords with java
Hi, i am writing a tiny application which generates new accounts from an existent department's database. This is a school and i have to create several hundred accounts per year, so i think it's worth the effort. As i write this app in Java (I just happen to be best in Java not C or Perl), i would like to do as much as possible in Java without invoking external scripts. Alas i do not

Problem with "ldapsam:trusted = yes"
Hi, I updated from 3.0.11 to 3.0.12 and tried the new ldapsam:trusted parameter. Alas smbd dies silently a second after startup. With debug level 2 I can't see any reason in the logfile. My smb.conf is (relevant part I hope): ================================= [global] workgroup = BBS_XXX netbios aliases = fileserver revreselif passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://localhost

Creating mandatory profiles (not making profiles mandatory)
Hi, is it possible to create the user profiles by copying a template, change file ownership and modify the SID in NTUSER.DAT using the profile tool? We have many problems with broken profiles. This has become time consuming and frustrating - when a user experiences an error or weird behaviour of an application I can never be sure wether the cause is a "wrong user error", a broken

Building two redundant servers without clustering
Hi, my Fileserver lately refused to work anymore. I'm quite thankfull for that for that it was a bit slow anyway ;-) My idea is to set up two relativley samba-hosts instead of byuing one "real" server with many build in redundancies. That can only work if I can manage to keep both filesystems in sync and I see two alternatives: 1.: Use drdb to build a RAID1 across the two
