State of CentOS 8

No. 8-stream is where packages will (eventually) be available to test software that?ll be part of the next point release of RHEL. So, for example, before RHEL 8.1 was released, 8-stream had kernel packages with a version-release close to what was eventually released in RHEL 8.1, and eventually into CentOS 8.1.xxxx. -- Jonathan Billings <...

Assertions for asynchronous behaviour
Hi all, In GOOS[1] they use an assertion called assertEventually which samples the system for a success state until a certain timeout has elapsed. This allows you to synchronise the tests with asynchronous code. Do we have an equivalent of that in the Ruby / RSpec world already? I know capybara has wait_until { } but that''s fairly rudimentary - the...

Status of RPMFusion repo for CentOS 5 and 6 ?
Hi, I have to maintain (and eventually beef up) desktop clients in public libraries running CentOS 5 and 6. The hardware is still OK, though sometimes really old, so the least evil will be to keep CentOS 5 on the old machines until that version is EOL. I've been using CentOS 5 as my main system somewhere between 2007 and 2009....

[3.3 beta3] When should the self-heal daemon be triggered?
Hi, I eventually installed three Debian unstable machines, so I could install the GlusterFS 3.3 beta3. I have a question about the self-heal daemon. I'm trying to get a volume which is replicated, with two bricks. I started up the volume, wrote some data, then killed one machine, and then wrote more da...

CentOS 4.5: Automounted USB disks eventually stop appearing on desktop
This is just a minor annoyance, but I wondered if anyone has any insights. When I first boot the system and log in to Gnome, and then plug in e.g. a USB stick or compact flash card, I get an icon for it on the desktop. I can right-click on this icon to "eject" the filesystem, etc. Eventually, though, for no obvious reason, this stops working and I no longer get an icon when I insert a USB device. The automount is still happening; I can still navigate to the device under /media with Nautilus, and I can still umount it from a shell as a nonprivileged user. What process is supposed...

[semi-OT]: will icecast eventually be able to stream video ?
hello guys ! i wonder whether the new ogg theora video codec will be added to icecast2... we've been using icecast2 earlier this year for a webcast of our linux audio developers conference (http://www.linuxdj.com/audio/lad/eventszkm2003.php3), and since next year's event will be somewhat bigger, we would love to have some sort of video stream happening. it's nothing mission

My Workgroup eventually disappears when I enable SAMBA!
When I enable Samba on my Linux box, the workgroup "Workgroup" eventually disappears from site in both the GUI "Network Neighbourhood" and at the W2000 cmd line "net view". It takes a little while for this to happen, and initially it works well. The Linux Box information can be found at the url below. But a short description of the setup is as fo...

callers who don't press any keys
I've noticed that some callers listen to our main menu and don't press any keys. I have it set up to restart the menu a few times and eventually hang up. I'm wondering if these are wrong numbers (in that case, why don't they hang up) or they really want to speak to someone here but don't understand the menu (what's so hard about "for the operator, press zero"?). They couldn't still have rotary phones (...

[LLVMdev] Validation Update
...automatically tag successful validations. That will take some more work and we don't want that automation quite yet anyway. We'll do it manually for a while and then once we get the gist of it we can make it automatic. One thing that would be nice to have is a commit hook on trunk (and eventually release branches) that lets buildbot know when changes are submitted. As of now, buildbot polls the svn server every 10 minutes, meaning it could miss one of the "every 10" commits (revision mod 10 == 0). The buildbot manual talks a bit about what the svn server needs to do here...

I'd like to eventually support network console, at least in pxelinux.
...s something that can talk to the VESA graphics screen, if one exist, otherwise to a text-mode screen, and also to a serial port (using escape codes.) The last is important and quite possibly the biggest shortcoming of the current menu system. Serial console is a big win, and I'd like to eventually support network console, at least in pxelinux. -hpa ____________________________________________________________________________ Hi, Would it be hard to add a network console to syslinux, extlinux and isolinux? Maybe something like Redboot Ethernet console. I'm finding it hard to...

PXELINUX 4.10-pre*
So far I tested PXELINUX from 4.10-pre12, 4.10-pre9 and 4.10-pre6. The first two take a long time with a TFTP file not found and eventually find my file but error out (presumably to kaboom). The last takes a long time, does a lot of retransmitted packets (didn't watch the first two), then eventually loads the file but continues this behavior for TFTP and HTTP transfers. This is on VMware Server 2.0.2-203138 in Linux using the...

Winbind eventually locks "forever" if one of ActiveDirectory refuses all connections
...is incorrect? We have two domain controllers, and if we reboot either one of them, winbind hangs, and we cannot lookup any ids, and since logins are requiring group lookups, it makes logging in as a local user hang, effectively locking us out of the box. If we continue to try as a local user we can eventually get in, but it is less than ideal and scares everyone when you cannot log in. Not rebooting the AD servers is not an option, we do keep our boxes patched with updates. What appears to happen is that rebooting one of the AD servers causes winbind to get some kind of error, and stop listening on...

Eventually transitioning to Windows Server 2016
Hi, I am preparing to get our Data Center from a Samba 3.5 NT4 domain to AD. All users, file ownerships, etc. have to remain of course. I am planning to use Samba 4.7.x, but I was wondering if it is possible to eventually transition to Windows Server 2016 as the only DC hosts. The way I understand it is that this is not possible right now, because Samba doesn't support that schema version (among other things). Thus I couldn't join WS 2016 DCs and take out the Samba DC. So unless Samba is updated, once I...
