Strange Question regarding CentOS 5 install
...x and they will actually load a graphical installer but CentOS 5 does not. Does anyone know if there is a way for me to get the GUI installer so I can monkey with VG's? currently these options aren't available in the curses menu set up. And yes I know I could just as easily create regular etx3 filesystems with no LVM2 stuff (no I'm not going to be adding more drives any time soon to my laptop) but it would be nice to know it's possible. I was using LVM2 on my last laptop and it was handy having the ability to grow and shrink some filesystems. I know it's probably not on the...

HFS filesystem on linux + samba -> Mac
Hi A friend has a disk with an hfs filesystem on it; we'd like to move it to a Debian (etch 2.6.18-6) box and share it via samba 3.0.24. I can mount the hfs disk and see the files on the linux box : good I can share a normal (xfs/etx3) fs via samba to the Mac : good Although I can share the hfs fs via samba, the extended attributes are not visible; so the existing files on the hfs filesystem are not useable (silly Mac!) When I use samba/xfs we and create a file called 'DGTest' we see a file called "._DGTest"...

Many orphaned inodes after resize2fs
Hello, yesterday I experienced following problem with my ext3 filesystem: - I had ext3 filesystem of the size of a few TB with journal. I correctly unmounted it and it was marked clean. - I then ran fsck.etx3 -f on it and it did not find any problem. - After increasing size of its LVM volume by 1.5 TB I resized the filesystem by resize2fs lvm_volume and it finished without problem. - But fsck.ext3 -f immediately after that showed "Inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan linked list found.&quo...

Filesystems (was Re: Migration questions...)

Also try this if you want to pull the plug or randomly reboot and see what happens: http://brad.livejournal.com/2116715.html ~Seth

LVM (1.0.2 ), ext3 and 'hot' snapshotting
..., all. I work with lvm ( kernel 2.4.17 + ext3-2.4-0.9.17-2418p3 patch ) but i can't snapshot a ext3 fs directly # lvcreate --snap --name snap --size +1G /dev/vgtest/lvtest # mount -o ro -t ext3 /dev/vgtest/lvtest /snap /mnt/snap ext3 can't work , ext2 work If I mount readonly the etx3 filesystem, snapshot-it, and remount rw the filesystem ( and ro the snapshot ) it work fine. # mount -o remount,ro /dev/vgtest/test ; # lvcreate --snap --name snap --size +1G /dev/vgtest/lvtest; # mount -o remount,rw /dev/vgtest/test ; # mount -o ro -t ext3 /dev/vgtest/snap /mnt/snap ext...

Rsync problems with some files & timestamp
...quot;: Permission denied (13) Why only some files? Why rsync try to rename them? Why Permission denied? The script is launched with root. Is that some temp files? The Netware volume is mounted with a user that has all rights on the volume. If I rsync from the source NSS volume locally (on the etx3 fs), then the problem does not occurs. Another thing is that the timestamp is not correct on the destination server, but only for some files! These file are one hour less in the destination server. Here is the parameters I use with rsync : rsync -v -t --delete --exclude=$EXCLUDE -e --ignore-e...

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list. I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without modifications. How did I try it? Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock ) Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee prep-out.log The build failed at the end: Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL Checking
