Re: Can dtrace agent of JDK be used in IBM Websphere?
Hi, Yufei: Thanks for your kind action. Let me centralize all the harm-hearted guys and involved alias in one email. Below is the answer of your question (Can you reply with more details on what failed? Does websphere use an IBM or Sun developed SDK? ) 1. Seems IBM bundled JDK can not detect agent options, like below: If use Sun JDK 1.5, no problem: /usr/jdk/jdk1.5.0_06/bin/java

polynomials REML and ML in nlme
Hello everyone, I hope this is a fair enough question, but I don’t have access to a copy of Bates and Pinheiro. It is probably quite obvious but the answer might be of general interest. If I fit a fixed effect with an added quadratic term and then do it as an orthogonal polynomial using maximum likelihood I get the expected result- they have the same logLik.

WALL not working on Debian 12
Hello, I have noticed that (apparensly) since Debian 12 upgrade the WALL commands for upsmon.conf don's seem to work. To test I have configured upsmon-dummy.conf to debug this: NOTIFYCMD /usr/sbin/upssched NOTIFYFLAG ONBATT SYSLOG+EXEC+WALL NOTIFYFLAG ONLINE SYSLOG+EXEC+WALL the /usr/sbin/upssched gets called: /lib/nut/upsmon -D -D -D -D -f /etc/nut/upsmon-dummy.conf and I

Hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm (MCMC)
Hi all, I'm trying to estimate a nested model (purchase decision, cloglog formula, & quantity bought given a purchase, truncated Poisson). Some of the parameters are mixed (6) and 4 are fixed for all the respondent. The simulated ML (500 simulations) method forwards highly correlated estimates. After some research, Hybrid Monte Carlo seems to be a good alternative to estimate the model. I

WALL not working on Debian 12
Maybe...ish - I haven't seen those for a while, but had few outages either. Can you check if the updated (root) user profile or default profile(s) under /etc mention `mesg n` or similar means of limiting broadcasts? In your manual `wall` executions, do you see them in the same terminal that sent the message, or on all terminals (GUI, SSH sessions)? As root or as any user (as recipient and as

NUT and Eaton UPS produce a lot of error messages
With recent NUT releases, driver disconnections should be contained in its own `nut-driver at eaton` instance (the `@upsname` part is derived from the `ups.conf` section name). One of the drivers failing and restarting is not a proper cause for the data server to recycle. Also, nowadays some (maybe not all) USB-capable drivers should try to reconnect without restarting. Note however, that in some

NUT and Eaton UPS produce a lot of error messages
Well, from your logs it seems that at 05:17:03 your nut-server (upsd) restarted, so an upsmon reconnection attempt at 05:17:09 had an issue with that (config not all applied? strange a bit) but since 05:17:14 it is okay. Maybe a few too many banners shown from upsmon, while its same uptime seems to continue. Maybe someone should check on that, seems like a good and easy newcomer issue to learn

books about MCMC to use MCMC R packages?
Dear list users, I need to learn about MCMC methods, and since there are several packages in R that deal with this subject, I want to use them. I want to buy a book (or more than one, if necessary) that satisfies the following requirements: - it teaches well MCMC methods; - it is easy to implement numerically the ideas of the book, and notation...
