masking a regular lat/lon grid to extract map boundaries
...would like to mask this rectangular grid in order to extract all and
only the grid points within a specific region. Today I want to
extract Montana, say, from this grid, and I am hoping to somehow use
the returned value of the function map("state",region="montana").
I'm not espoused to using the "maps" library database, it's just the
way I thought one could go about it (one smarter than I am...) and it
would certainly be useful to exploit the many political boundaries
provided by that library, when I move on from Montana to something
else...
Any suggestion for...

Hello Jean:
Big mistake!!
One of the three things that a supplier should never discuss is
politics ... that's business 101.
Speex may be a very good product, but we will never use it because of
the politics that you espouse ... some of us out here believe
strongly in the free market. And we also know that monopolies can't
exist because entrepreneurs will always exploit the inevitable market
openings left by another supplier ... in this case Microsoft. In
fact, Speex's success is proof of the statement I ju...

Model Specs: Fixtures vs Mocks + Stubs?
What is the general opinion about fixtures versus mocking and stubbing
in model specs? I heard from agile on IRC that they save the database
testing for integration testing, but I also see that the caboose
sample applicaiton uses fixtures. I also noticed that on the rspec
site, it says "Ironically (for the traditional TDD''er) these are the
only specs that we feel should actually

Just a thought, all this "swen" stuff, this list
...in any email address you sign up to the list with; it doesn't matter
if you have a virus scanner integrated with your MTA, I really don't
want to see 200 virus notifications a day because i posted to this
list. I have been getting about 20MB of swen a day since i first
posted here.
Not to espouse conspiracy theories, but it really seems like this list
is under attack. Can there be sme warning about this on the list
signup page? Like, "Use a throwaway email address for this list", etc.
I'm not complaining, just that I think some sort of warning is in
order here. This swen st...

As a user of the JIT, I am *very* strongly in favour of Lang's espoused
position.
p.s. I don't think we know what the "right" interface is for the JIT
yet. Until we do, having multiple interfaces (with a single shared
implementation, based on the rest of LLVM) seems entirely reasonable and
appropriate.
p.p.s. If Lang was proposing the replacement...

[LLVMdev] [cfe-dev] Style question: NULL or 0?

I believe Stroustrup espoused this at one point (perhaps even on his
website) on the basis that using NULL gives you a false sense of
security - which isn't entirely true now that compilers (GCC & clang
presumably) will warn you about using NULL in non-pointer contexts.

Speex is a not business, nor is Jean-Marc selling a product. The
Xiph.Org Foundation, of which Jean-Marc is a member with his Speex
project, is a non-profit organization.

If you would like to pay for a special US$1000 Speex license, I'm sure
Jean-Marc will be glad to provide you with one.

I believe "Free Market" is an American capitalist buzz word.
Jean-Marc is Canadian.

Newbie Q: Good link to configuring NAT with Sipura ATA's & hardphones
...tc. but devices on
5061-5080 work fine (caused by IOS interference)
* or else SIP signalling works fine, but there's no media connection.
I've googled various postings on the net, but they're not very
consistent or even well explained. Some claim using "VIA" works, others
espouse using "rport=", etc.
I've looked at the Sipura administration guide, and it's troubleshooting
section covers 3 scenarios (!!!):
* phone won't boot up
* phone won't make or receive calls
* calls with poor voice quality
Ok, well, that leaves a lot of territory uncovered....

Plain Text Story example
Hey all,
Does anyone have an example(s) of the plain text story runner for
rails? I have read David''s blog
(http://blog.davidchelimsky.net/articles/2007/10/22/plain-text-stories-on-rails)
about it but I would like to see some examples with all of the step
matchers included... I couldn''t find any more examples on google
talking about the plain text stories and the example

Microsoft RTAudio
Hi people
Just wondered what your thoughts are on Microsoft's RTAudio codec that they use in their Unified Communications stuff:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5D79B584-79C9-42A8-90C4-4AB3F03D19C4&displaylang=en
They let people license it to use in their own products. I couldn't find any sample clips of RTAudio encoded speech. Apart from being $35000 less

Shared hosting for rails
Hi all,
This is my first posting to the mailing list. We are a small but
technically competent hosting company in Savannah, GA. We have
recently been bitten by the rails bug ourselves and while we are
enthusiastic we don''t know a great deal about rails yet. We are
looking at setting up hosting for rails, but we wanted to get
feedback from the community before doing so.

[LLVMdev] Style question: NULL or 0?
Hi, LLVM. I have a question I'd like to get put into the official style guidelines: do we prefer NULL or 0 for C++ objects? I've seen both throughout the code.
Personally I prefer NULL, since it establishes that something is a pointer and not an integer (or integer-constructed object, but thankfully we avoid implicit conversions in LLVM/Clang). But I think I read somewhere that 0 is more

Understanding Problem with rsa min key length 1024
Hello,
Sometime ago min rsa key length was increased to 1024 bit and i have a
little understanding problem with this.
I hope somebody with some crypto-experience can enlighten me. To make
that clear, that is not about allowing lower keys in general.
Personally i would tend to use even longer keys(2048bit+).
However Due nature of RSA-algorithm in case of 1024bit this might result
in a key

Problem with widescreen display
I have a dual boot CentOS 5.2 / FC4 machine, and recently I have bought a new
widescreen tft monitor. I used to use a plain 4:3 crt, and after plugging the
16:9 tft naturally X needed reconfiguring. This was easy in FC4, and seemed
as easy in CentOS, but with a wrong result.
Basically, what I did was to run system-config-display to reconfigure for the
new monitor and resolution. All goes

rspec_todo -- spec''ing backwards
While the spirit of BDD is to spec first and code second, many of us
have legacy code. Worse, some of us have legacy code without very
good coverage. Recognizing that *I* have such code, I created a
script that grinds through your .rb files and creates placeholder
specs for each public method.
While it is more sensible to spec behavior of code function than of
individual methods, this
