ESD driver?
All,
Has there been any discussion of an ESD sound driver
for Wine. The Alsa driver is great, but if I am
playing MP3 files via ESD, wine crashes alot when I
have the ALSA driver for wine loaded. The version of
ESD that I am using has support for ALSA in it. So I
have all my apps talk to ESD and that way I get mixed
sound. Little behind at times, especially in xine, but
at least I get all my

esd bug in ogg123
I've run into two problems with ogg123 that appears only when using the
esound driver.
Case 1: pops in output
Audible pops, especially at low volume. Original mp3 file does
not exhibit these pops, nor does oss output from ogg123, nor does
esd output from mpg123.
Things ruled out:
disk speed - the HD is ATA/33 with DMA on. It's a single user

Patch: ogg123 -> esd
Dear developers,
I patched ogg123 so that it can use esd (only local socket currently). In
order to compile you need to copy esd.h from the esound-devel to the
vorbis-tools directory.
Usage:
ogg123 -e -d something file.ogg
the "something" is not important
I don't intend to maintain this patch, but perhaps somebody could make it more
nicer and incorporate it in the

Wine esound/esd sound output
Hi,
I was trying the wine esound output plugin but the sound is really
choppy. On IRC it was noted that only the OSS output worked properly and
that esound implementation was quite crappy.
However I really need esound output since we use an LTSP setup. The
sound if only available through esd.
Are there any possibilities to further tweak the esound settings?
The software in question is windows

Problem with WAVE_FORMAT_ADPCM sound files
Hi all,
I recently managed to install "multimedia German dictionary", which I
get with the local newspaper , under wine and it works OK. The problem
it is when I try to use the most important feature for me - the
pronunciation. When I try to listen to any word , no sound is played
and wine outputs the following to the console:
wodOpen unimplemented format: WAVE_FORMAT_ADPCM

YALCSF (Yet Another Libao Configure Script Fix)
This patch fixes three problems with the current configure script:
1. Manual exclusion of drivers: Now you will be able to force drivers NOT to
be compiled, even if they are detected. This was specifically requested with
so that ALSA could be disabled.
2. Selecting the default device: Now you can override the default driver
chosen by the script with your own preference. Again, this enhancement

DTrace typewriter
G''Day Folks,
I''ve found another use of dtrace, this makes your console keyboard
sound like a typewriter.
http://www.brendangregg.com/DTrace/typewriter-0.70.tar.gz
I''ve only tested it on an UltraSPARC 5 and a Pentium laptop so far, more
to follow.
Ok, sorry, not actually a practical use of DTrace. :)
Enjoy!

optimization to libao audio output autodetection code
Ok, this patch replaces the old patch I sent, and it
does a bit more.
For one, it sorts the linked list of drivers based on
the priority values, highest valued ones coming first.
That allows the _find_default_driver_id code to stop
looping (break) immediately when it finds a driver
that works, because it already knows it's the working
driver with the highest priority (what it normally

Audio problem.
Hi.
I've noticed audio problems when using Wine on Sun's Solaris 10 UNIX system. When I go to run a program that uses audio, like a game, it seems not to be synchronized properly and skips some. What's up with that, anyway? I noticed some messages about not being able to find "SUNW,oss" and also this, if it has any relevancy:
"fixme:mpeg3:mp3_horse Error occurred

Problems with pyvorbis python bindings.
[Sorry if this is a duplicate post. My original didn't appear to have
gotten through.]
I had previously installed libao, libogg, libvorbis, and vorbis-tools,
as linked from the RC3 download page at vorbis.com -- I downloaded and
installed the latest versions of these four libraries from the
vorbis.com download page, at which point my pyogg/pyvorbis Python
bindings broke. I reinstalled the

Wine 1.3.25 kills sound with PulseAudio
In version 1.3.24 and previous versions, sound was hit-and-miss on my system unless I had ESD enabled. Now that ESD has been removed, so has any reliable sound.
When using the ALSA driver, some sounds work for a while, after which all sound completely stops. Enabling ESD and using the PulseAudio eSound plugin made all sounds work perfectly. That is now gone with version 1.3.25, and sound is now

Manpages
Here is patch with manpages for ogg123(1), mp3tovorbis(1) and vorbize(1).
Manpages are in pod format,
because it is the most readable man source,
and are compiled by pod2man.
all and clean for man/ work.
Install and uninstall for man/ seem to work.
Manpages are GPLed of course.

RC3: ogg123 dumps core at end of file
1.0rc3, OpenBSD/i386 & FreeBSD/alpha.
ogg123 segfaults after playing a file. This will not happen if I
specify multiple songs and skip (^C) to the next one.
Seems to be independent of buffering (-b) and output device (oss,
esd, raw).

I installed fink and now I have the /sw/lib, however that didn't fix
my problem. I went as far as to take out the -
Ddlsym=dlsym_auto_underscore out of the configuration files. Now
however the libao package won't build at all and yips about this:

ao_arts
Hi,
I've written an ao plugin for aRts, the soundserver that comes with KDE.
Any chance of including this in the ao distribution ? Pretty please ? :)
Sources and patches attached. This is a very simple plugin because it
uses the easy-to-use 'artsc' C wrapper that aRts installs.
configure.in.diff is for ao/configure.in
Makefile.am.diff is for ao/src/plugins/Makefile.am

ogg123 running under MacOS X
I finally managed to compile ogg123 under MacOS X, after creating a PB
project for it.
Rillian, do you want to include the PB project in cvs? (it needs a LOT
of polishing, though).
