CentOS4 laptop touchpad erratic operation
I've just put up CentOS4 on my HP ze4630us laptop, and the installation produced only two problems of note, both related to X operations. 1. The installer refused to allow 1024x768 resoultion for the screen. After install, manually setting the resolution in xorg.conf was no problem. 2. Erratic touchpad operation. This unit has a synaptic touchpad. I've also noted similar problems on my previous Gentoo install (also 2.6 kernel and xorg). Never really resolved this. When scrolling across a screen in a browser panel where there are multiple links, the mouse will trigger click operatio...

erratic winbind authentication
I have had a long term problem with my set up. winbind authentication is erratic. Whenever I restart one of my servers the member server refuses to authenticate users. Sometimes is will only authenticate some users on some shares. Usually by fiddling with it I can eventually get it to work but I can't identify the solution so I can replicate it. Once I get can finall...

Erratic behavior with smbmount
...messages). Then when I try to access the mountpoint - via Nautilus or by doing "ls" in a terminal - the system freezes. If I try smbumount I get "Device or resource busy." I have to use "umount -l" to unmount the share. What's weird is that the behavior is very erratic. If I start and stop nmb and smb a few times, and change some minor parameters with SWAT, and then try again, then smbmount works fine - I can browse the share with Nautilus, drag-and-drop, etc. Once I reboot, it all starts again. Here are the results of testparm: # Global parameters [global]...

Erratic error with adaptIntegrate in cubature package
...works with absError=1e-3 and takes approximately 10 seconds then asking for absError=1e-4 I get the error about REAL() within one second. So even though the computation should take longer it doesn't seem to be starting. However later on when I ask for absError=1e-4 it works. The error is quite erratic so I don't understand what is going wrong or how to prevent it happening. There are three parameters that I sometimes change and each can cause this error all of a sudden (but most of the time it doesn't so there doesn't seem to be any consistency!) - absError (a parameter from the a...

Erratic behaviour of sammon()
I'm not sure this list is the right place for this thing. I noticed some erratic behaviour in sammon(). Running sammon on two nearly identical sets of data results in very different results. Below is an example. I create an initial configuration with cmdscale() and store it into 'vec1'. I write this to file, and read it back in again to 'vec2'. According to co...

ipfw erratic on 7 stable
Hi I'm having a problem with ipfw, I think. erratic behavior of match()?
Consider the code: x <- seq(0,1,0.2) y <- seq(0,1,0.01) cbind(match(y,x),y) which, surprisingly, doesn't show a match at 0.6! (It gives correct matches at 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 and 1, though) In addition, x[4]==y[61] yields FALSE. (but x[5]==y[81], the one for 0.8, yields TRUE) Is this a consequence of machine error or something else? Could this be overcome? (It works correctly when

Erratic Trouble rsyncing between windows share and linux
I am trying to rsync between two linux boxes, but one of the linux boxes is using samba to map a share from a windows SAN onto it's file system. Rsync quit working properly when I changed the source directory from a local ext3 filesystem to the windows share mapped onto the filesystem. This setup may be kind of odd, but I need to keep user's data on the SAN and I also need the linux box to

Erratic CPU load
...ursts of high CPU usage (40-50%) by one of the asterisk processes supporting the connection. The bursts happen in irregular intervals, ranging from 30 to 60 sec. Meanwhile, the reported average load jumps up and down between 0.1 to 0.7. What's happening here? Is the processor load really this erratic, or am I looking at an artefact in cpu usage measurement? Maybe there is an aliasing effect caused by the periodic cpu load (20ms, default trunk frequency) and the cpu usage measurement (also periodic?), but I don't know how to check this. If this top reading is an artefact, is there a way to...

Erratic calls through NAT-ed server
Morning, We recently pushed our Asterisk video bridge into a DMZ and since then, local calls have been unreliable to say the least. While offsite calls work nicely, calls on our internal server usually fail to ring the far end. Two test calls that were made 4 minutes apart yielded different results: one rang the far end, the other kept trying to transmit the Invite. The configuration didn't

Optimum online-upload throttling confirmed.
Hello All, I was recently fighting with an optimum online connection in NY. I finally got in touch with someone that confirmed they are throttling my upload connection. I just wanted to make everyone aware of it, so if you have problems if your ping times jump erratically, this could be the cause. Their suggestions were, although you can upload a lot, do not do it constantly. They do not want any constant outgoing connections. Even on business class, they do throttle. All business class primarily does is allow port 25 to pass. Now I am going to look and s...

Erratic behavior when Windows XP clients attempt to login to PDC
...in to the Samba PDC, the XP client will sometimes randomly choose the backup domain controller. I only want the client to join the backup domain controller when the PDC is offline. I am not experiencing any random network outages or DNS failures so I am bewildered as to why I am experiencing this erratic bahavior. The following is my global config. from my smb.conf on my bdc and pdc. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated: [global] workgroup = BIOLOGICAQUA server string = PDC-SRV passdb backend = 'ldapsam:ldaps://pdc-srv.biologicaqua.org ldaps://bdc-srv.bi...

Erratic local hostname resolution with Dnsmasq

Windows XP and domain logon
Hello, I have installed samba 3.0.2a as PDC and BDC, I am able to add windows xp to domain and have added all the registry patches to windows xp, but when it comes to domain logon on windows xp client, the behaviour is very erratic, sometimes I am able to logon to domain and sometimes the domain logon fails, we need to restart the xp machine and keep trying to the domain logon.
