Joining a domain controller with a conflict name
...rst, it will never happen but when joining in with DOMAIN type, I can see scenarios when it could happen. I appreciate any idea how to prevent a server from not stepping on another server when joining a domain. Is it the responsibility of the IT person to make sure the name is unique? Cheers, Ephi

User can't access a share that he has full control of
...share that he has rights to, even that the user has no access to all folders leading to that. I also tested the situation on UNIX and emulated the issue in which a user can do everything going forward from a given directory but of course can't look or change to directories before. Thanks, Ephi

Failed to join win2008 domain when "server ldap signing is required".
...: LDAPMessage extendedResp(1) (00000000: LdapErr: DSID-0C090E0B, comment: Error initializing SSL/TLS, data 0, v1771) We also saw the same problem with windows 2003 SP2 however; it is working well for any other windows 2003 domain. Is it a known issue? Any hint will be much appreciated. Cheers, Ephi PS: unfortunately, we can't switch to samba 3.2.x or 3.3.x at the moment to avoid doing tls in the first place.

client connections to shares
...e separate smbd to handle each share. Essentially configuring SMBA that each smbd only communicate with one client (as it does today) and only allow one share access. Can it be configured on the client side or the server side to allow this architecture (one smbd/tcp per client per share) Cheers, Ephi

wbinfo -n and wbinfo -s are broken with win2003 SP1
Hi All, I upgraded my windows 2003 enterprise server to sp1 and having problems with winbindd/wbinfo. I am using samba 3.0.6 and joined as ADS wbinfo -u wbinfo -g wbinfo -p wbinfo -t work like a Swiss watch However wbinfo -n ephi wbinfo -s ..... DO NOT WORK. Is the latest SAMBA release (3.0.15pre2 and up) cover those issues (-n and -s) If we joined as DOMAIN (NT4 style) even other flags such as -u, -g didn't work well. Thanks so much for all your help. We relying heavily on those 2 wbinfo options. It sounds...

change share command in smb.conf
...name. I mean if you want to change existing share name to new share name, don't you need to get the old share name too? It can only work if what you want to change is the path or the comment and the input share name is an existing share name and not a new share. Just wondering. Cheers, Ephi
