W2k8 "DNS Manager" doesn't work anymore...
Hey guys, Since the deployment, in production, of my brand new `Samba4 AC DC` (Ubuntu 14.04.1), I was using regularly the "Windows 2008 R2 Enteprise" (also brand new installation - no I.E. installed) software called "DNS Manager", to manage my `Samba4 + Bind9` couple but, since today, out of nothing, the "DNS Manager" does not work anymore, I'm seeing the following error when I try to "update, or delete" a...

Asterisk on RedHat/AMD
Hello All, My system is built on a dual Athlon box using Redhat 9. From time to time there are problems with the phone system that are hard top track down and sseem to be resolved with just a simple reboot. I read somewhere that Linux loves teh Intel platform and that on AMD it is not as good. Is this true or just hooey? If so, would I get more reliability by dumping the AMD box in favor of

...hat type of problem (CVE) it suffers and do my reasoning for an update process. This is a missing for me but I still use centos and I should not need a RHEL account to access to get advisories and see what applies on CentOS (6,7,8 and Stream). Many of us, choose CentOS due to its stability and enteprise-ready feature (and because is partially/enterely backed by RH). Due to actual problem, many server and workstation died and it's normal that some user said "A lot of trust has been destroyed." because they placed a lot of trust on the pro-redhat support. On the other side, all of...

Too many open files, Bug 3342
We submitted bug 3342 on Dec. 20th, Too many open files. It has not moved from the new state. So lets try here. We have Dell Quad Xeon server that we end up rebooting about every 2-3 weeks when the number of open samba files sky rockets. The system is a ClearCase server system. We have been monitoring this system for a few months now and are not able to pin down a cause to this issue. The system

...not so good for a server. If the theory "unspoken truth" is real I don't like how RH is trying to encourage me to switch to RHEL and this is a bad way to do this. About Oracle as alternative. Oracle Linux is not an alternative to CentOS but for RHEL and if I will force to pay for enteprise system currently I will pay RHEL, not OL. Over this, OL is not the only enterprise distro that a "user" could choose. If support is needed there are SUSE (SLES) and Ubuntu. Questions about migration Sun Messaging -> Dovecot+Postfix+Ldap
...ts A user id is unique, so there is only a "john_doe" in the ldap tree (I repeat, there is NOT uid=john_doe,o=us.es,dc=us,dc=es and uid=john_doe,o=alum.us.es,dc=us,dc=es). Below you will find a copy of the dovecot.conf and dovecot-ldap.conf. Our operating system is Red Hat Enteprise Linux 5 x64. These are our questions: 1) We are unable to make dbox work with quota, but we have no problem with maildir. Quota is stored in a ldap attibute called "mailQuota" 2) A user can be in different branches in the same time: for example, a teacher called pepito...

Hi, I just read this blog article from austrian Linux expert Michael Kofler. For those among you who don't know the guy, he's my home country's number one Linux expert (known as "der Kofler") and most notably the author of a series of excellent books about Linux over the last 25 years. https://kofler.info/centos-8-wertlose-langzeitunterstuetzung/ Disclaimer : I've been

ext4 and extremely slow filesystem traversal
Hello list, I have troubles with the daily backup of a modest filesystem which tends to take more that 10 hours. I have ext4 all over the place on ~200 servers and never ran into such a problem. The filesystem capacity is 300 GB (19,6M inodes) with 196 GB (9,3M inodes) used. It's mounted 'defaults, noatime'. It sits on a hardware RAID array thru plain LVM slices. The RAID array is
