...ched the net now for a couple of days, after the answer for this one: How do I enable encrypted passwords in samba so that nt4 sp3+ can access shares? ( I do not have access to the registry on those machines) Im using samba on debian, and I read someplace that youll have to recompile in support for enrypted password. I have put "enrypted passwords = yes" in smb.conf, doesnt seem to work. Does this mean I need to recompile? If so, how to recompile? Using switches to the configure script? And what switches if any? Has the security mode any effect on this? Im using "security = share&quot...

Encrypted container on CentOS VPS
I wonder if it is possible to set up an encrypted "file container" on a CentOS VPS? I am the root user of the VPS but the hosting company also has access to the VPS and thus all files. Is it possible to create a LUKS-container on the VPS and those files only be accessible by me? IOW, most of the file system on the VPS would be regular file system but the container could be used by me as

IPSec tunnel and routing
...ipsec esp/tunnel/10.1.0.1-10.2.0.1/require; spdadd 192.168.2.0/24 192.168.1.0/24 any -P in ipsec esp/tunnel/10.2.0.1-10.1.0.1/require; makes _routing_ of packets from 192.168.1/24 into 192.168.2/24. If I understand correctly how it works on *BSD, these commands with make already tunneled traffic enrypted, routing is done before and besides ipsec SA and SP databases. On routing happens just like miracle. Ok, I would not ask all this if I have no problem with tunnelling. With configuration like described above, where multihomed maches have ip-addresses (192.168.1.1, 10.1.0.1) and (192.168.2.1, 10....

...+ Can Samba use PAM for encrypted passwords, rather than just smbpasswd's own text file? + If we can't support encrypted Windows client authentication from PAM (and only use smbpasswd's database instead), can we automatically translate enrypted password entries from PAM into smbpasswd? * Very important: general authentication + Ideally, we could authenticate every network service from PAM, which would authenticate from LDAP. Can any version of Samba be made to do that? + What...
