ENCFS + Samba?
I have a Samba network and want to be able to access files stored on the Linux server that is encrypted with ENCFS. Is this possible? If the encrypted system is unmounted, i can access the share from a windows computer but (of course) there's nothing in it. If the drive is mounted, then I cannot access it. access is denied. Any ideas? TIA PAB

Gluster Summit BOF - Encryption
We had a BOF about how to do file-level volume encryption. Coupled with geo-replication, this feature would be useful for secure off-site archiving/backup/disaster-recovery of Gluster volumes. TLDR: It might be possible using EncFS stacked file system on top of a Gluster mount, but it is experimental and untested. At the moment, you are on your own. - The built-in encryption translator is strongly deprecated and it may be removed altogether from the code base in the future. - The kernel-based ecryptfs (http://ecryptfs.org...

Rsync tries to access unnecessary files/dirs after chrooting itself.
Hi. While debugging some encfs errors in the logs, I realized they are being generated because rsync (chrooted inside a encfs file system, --reverse) is trying to access files like: /root/.popt, /etc/localtime etc. This doesn't seem to be related to ID-name mapping as I already have numeric ids enabled in config. Here is the...

Encrypted File Storage
Anyone got any experience/suggestions for a way to store a directory of sensitive information on a CentOS box? This directory contains many scripts and output files, I need it backed up but not unencrypted and don't want to store it in a tar file type archive as when it needs to be accessed and have scripts executed/data generated, it needs to be untarred/unencrypted and I don't know the

encfs on top of zfs
Dear ZFS-Users, I want to switch to ZFS, but still want to encrypt my data. Native Encryption for ZFS was added in "ZFS Pool Version Number 30<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZFS#Release_history>", but I''m using ZFS on FreeBSD with Version 28. My question is how would encfs (fuse encryption) affect zfs specific features like data Integrity and deduplication? Moving folder just vanished??
...same filesystem (LVM ext3) with the mouse and as I dropped the folder into the new folder - poof! - it disappeared like a puff of smoke. I've searched everywhere for the files/and or folder and they are totally gone. I must also point out that the filesystem was an encrypted one using fuse-encfs. In all my years of using Linux, I've never seen this happen before. Sadly I have no backup as I'd just copied them from an SD card to the HDD then formated the card - maybe I was too quick doing that step. Thanks

rsync and encryption
Hi, I have a small server at home. I like to put it 'online' and secure it as good as possible. The counterside of putting your personal backups on a server is that it might get hacked... and you don't want have to have your personal docs online... Do you think encryption is needed? How to use encryption with rsync? Thanks in advance, ~D

Support for Tripp Lite SmartOnline SU1000XLA?
...e or resource busy Can't initialize data from HID UPS Driver failed to start (exit status=1) I did an 'fuser -m -v /dev/usb/hiddev0' just prior, and the file was unused by any other process, so the error report is a little odd. (Another oddity is that the file _was_ earlier claimed by encfs, when I had an encrypted file system mounted, where no USB was involved at all. Don't understand that. I unmounted that before running upsdrvctl.) I'm running Debian Lenny amd64, FWIW. I don't have a serial port on the computer I'm using, so to make this work I need to use USB....

chdir / chroot after pre-xfer ?
Hello, I am trying to configure rsyncd to mount destination encrypted FS (using EncFS) before syncing. In my rsyncd.conf : [test] path = /home/dest <...> pre-xfer exec = sleep 30 ; echo mypassword | encfs -S /home/ encrypteddir /home/dest ; sleep 30 (I have put "sleep 30" instructions just to make some tests) /home/encrypteddir is correctly mounted by rsyncd to...

Samba and Encrypted File Systems - Linux (repost)
Hi everyone. just thought i'd reword by previous message about ENCFS and Samba. I guess what I'm trying to find out is can Samba work with any encrypted file systems? Does anyone have any experience/advice on this? I want to be able to see the Linux encrypted file system from a windows computer when the EFS is mounted, but not be able to see it when it isn...

how safe is "net use" in a batch file? plus some encryption questions
...I have to keep NTLMv1 etc activated to support old Windows XP VMs ... as far as I remember there are ways to activate safer protocols for XP as well, correct? (they insist on XP because of a specific software ...) - They also ask for encryption. I think I could encrypt the underlying layer via encfs or something, but that means that somebody has to provide a passphrase at boot/mount-time. I want to avoid a single-person-of-failure-scenario here: even if I am not available they have to be able to get that server up and running again in case of some reboot or so. Is it recommended to just p...

Anyone using fuse and/or sshfs under Centos 4.4?
Hi A search of google failed to show any prebuilt rpms for sshfs and fuse. I do see that fuse support is in 2.6.14 kernel which isn't a whole lot of help. Before I dive headlong into this has anyone successfully built fuse/sshfs against Centos 4.4. If so would you share your experience? Thanks Daveh

......) You can make XP use NTLMv2, see here: https://www.imss.caltech.edu/node/396 I don't know who your customer is, but they really should find a more up to date way of doing things. > > - > > They also ask for encryption.
