canonicalize_connect_path failed for service
Hi Rowland, We did the classicupgrade. Post the classicupgrade, we added a Windows 2008R2 server and dcpomo'd it. The original Samba box (classic DC) was where we did the classicupgrade. Did you mean that we need to shut that box down? Leaving a Windows DC (FSMO?) and Samba member server? Sorry I was not aware of this step. What if we hadn't added a Windows 08 box? Here is the

Hi Rowland, Thank you. I think the 5 zones maybe a parsing issues somewhere. Also, the realms are in capital, must have been a typo. The UFW has been disabled and selinux is in a disbaled state /etc/bind/named.conf.options has options { directory "/var/cache/bind"; // If there is a firewall between you and nameservers you want // to talk to, you may need to

Samba Domain server authentication
Hi, The setup used to work on a when both file and AD were in the same box. We're trying to separate them. The 'net rpc testjoin' gives: Join to "LIN" is ok. The wbinfo -u does list all users with "LIN\username". The getent passwd lists the LIN\username with all the attrributes". This is after putting in your suggestions about winbind trusted domains only and

Hi Andrew, I was able to domain join the server to the domain, had to add in client ipc signing = auto security = domain Then it comes up with Joined "sam4Dc" to the domain. What does that step actually do? Coming back to your comments. At a point in time both servers will be DCs. The plan is that after that point Samba3 box will cease to become a DC and act as a file server only. So

Hi Guys, Have not had any feedback on this. I found the following article but not sure if it is valid https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/old/Samba3-HOWTO/samba-bdc.html We have an upcoming project to migrate Samba first into a new Hardware then the AD migration. Our hardware is old and we need to migrate. Please allow me to explain the current setup - Server : Physical - OS: Ubuntu 12.04 running

NFS mounted Samba Shares
Hi, We are having some issues with users trying to access NFS mounted shares via Samba. The issues are random and doesn't happen with all the folders/files within that share. The problematic ones have permission denied message in the Windows client. The files/folders in questions have permissions for the user/group and the backend is LDAP. Is there a guide on how to Share NFS mounted

Curios case of UID
Hi, Not sure if this has been asked before. When we create new users in our AD box, they get the UIDs in high 30000 range. Is this normal? If yes, can we change the starting range? We migrated using ClassicUpgrade, now running Ubuntu 18.04 VM The smb.conf looks like workgroup = ADDOM realm = ADDOM.COM netbios name = WNAD01 server role = active directory domain
