elpa-ess fails to initialize after update to 18.10 on ubuntu bionic
The latest ess and elpa-ess 18.10-1bionic0 packages for ubuntu leave ess unable to find initialization files when it is invoked from R via M-x R. I've found a workaround by creating a soft link: cd /usr/share sudo ln -s /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/elpa-src/ess-18.10 ess but this may be a widespread problem. It appe...

elpa-ess fails to initialize after update to 18.10 on ubuntu bionic
...orth, I made two more tests: - on my system 'M-x R' as well as the suggested-in-the-ESS-documentation 'M-x ess-version' both work whether or not I have my ~/.emacs -- so somehow system path must work - I have the .el files in the default directory: /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/elpa-src/ess-18.10 - They are also symlinked each into /usr/share/emacs25/site-lisp/elpa/ess-18.10/ which also contains the 'compiled' .elc files "Works here" and I currently have no suggestion as to what to fix on your end. After the update, M-x R produces: load ESSR: + + + Error in file(filename, "r", encoding = encoding) : ? cannot open the connection In addition: Warning message: In file(filename, "r", encoding = encoding) : ? cannot open file ?/usr/share/ess/etc/ESSR/R/.load.R?: No such file or directory Any guesses? Thanks, Steve

MRutter PPA versioning issue, again
Michael, ESS broke again on my laptop after I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.10. The elpa-ess package seems to be provided multiple times, sadly the one with xenial (16.04) in its name wins ... and breaks the setup. I one for cosmic, I had one from bionic (18.04), but because the names 'wrapped' the 'x' wins over 'b' and 'c'. We had talked about that in...

BUG: emacs orgmode ob-R.el function org-babel-R-evaluate-session over aggressively performs "; ; cleanup extra prompts left in output" and a possible workaround
Hello , I am not sure what the best solution is, but, in my hands using Org-mode version 8.3.2-elpa org-20150929 the reg-expt used to "cleanup extra prompts left in output" is over-aggressive and will trim session :output at lines consisting exclusively of blanks and periods such as produced when printing a BioConductor 'Views' object which wants to appear as #+RESULTS: #+begi...

OT: Any interest in Line Powered Amplifiers?
Hello! I have a cabinet full of Wilcom Enhanced Line Powered Amplifiers with Manual Balance, model ELPA-421V. I *believe* these were used for a bank of analog modems back in the mid-90's. They were removed from a suite when the old company moved out. Here's a URL: http://www.wilcominc.com/elpa421v.htm Does anyone have any interest in these? If so, please reply off-list. Tim Massey

Listing elements of a 4D array
Dear list, I'm having trouble to see how my elements on a 4 dimensional array are listed. For example, I generated the following array: junk.melt=melt(occ.data,id.var=c("Especie", "Site", "Rep", "Año"), measure.var="Pres") y=cast(junk.melt, Site ~ Rep ~ Especie ~ Año) Now, I want to be able to look at how my species (Especie) are listed, in
