Anyone have any ideas?? It's rather annoying that I can't get these to
persist across reboots without using some kind of helper script.

Unable to get dummy interfaces to persist across reboots in CentOS 8
...8_2.x86_64
- the old networks-scripts have been deprecated and are not the defaults anymore
It's about time to switch to NM, but you got some 5-8 years till next EL release.

No.? Network Manager is always disabled on our builds since at least
Cent5 days.? The network stack has always been able to be managed
properly without relying on Network Manager.? Is that now an absolute
requirement?? It never has been prior.

Unable to get dummy interfaces to persist across reboots in CentOS 8
Hello all, hoping someone can help me out here.
I cannot get dummy interfaces on a new Cent8 build to persist across reboots.
On Cent7 - this is the process I use:
Create Dummies:
# cat /etc/modules-load.d/dummy.conf
dummy
# cat /etc/modprobe.d/dummyopts.conf
options dummy numdummies=4
# ip link add dummy0 type dummy
## - repeating a/ ascending dummyN adapters for as many needed

Re: BUG: Forum driving away experienced users
Trouble is if you split the list into newbies and non-newbies the people the other Alan despises so much won't think of themselves as newbies.
As a relative newbie myself I find it hard to swallow some of the near-elitist attitude shown by some experts, calling someone who isn't as experienced as you a noob is just plain insulting. I hope when those people learn something new they don't get a dose of their own medicine as I doubt they will like it.
How you deal with the people who don't read the FAQs, c...

As a sysadmin/programmer I really detest using indents to denote
lexical level. But when I have ever expressed such opinions I am
invariably shouted down and told that it makes programming easier and
I'm just an elitist nerd. And don't get me started on the incompatible
point releases.

Documentation for mocks?
Is there any documentation about how mock objects work in RoR,
specifically exactly how one should use the test/mocks directory. Is it
just me being incompetent searching for it, or hasn''t this been
documented yet?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Any documentation for routes?
I''m having a hard time setting up routes.
So far what I have is that accessing /photos/view/YYYY-MM-DD correctly
accesses the photo stored for that date, but I''d like to be able to
access this as simply "/YYYY-MM-DD"
My first guess of:
map.connect '':year-:month-:day'', :controller => ''photos'', :action =>

dummy interface shenanigans - CentOS6
tl;dr - a renamed dummy interface is not persisting across reboots on Cent6.
I have a situation where I need to rename a dummy interface on my system.
I have a total of 3 dummy interfaces:
dummy0
dummy1
adummy0
I've been doing some puppet testing in a vbox VM to get this all
sorted out to deploy to a group of boxes. Every time I reboot my VM,
it comes up WITHOUT adummy0, but I notice

From here you''ll need something like MarsEdit or ecto to post and an
aggregator to read (Newsfire and NetNewsWire are good).

More information can be found at the Scratch website:

turning that off, sorry).

Firefox ''Rails Mailing List'' search engine plugin
Hi all,
If you''re like me you probably spend a lot of time search the Rails
mailing list. To make life a little bit easier I''ve created a nice
little plugin for firefox ( A whopping 15 lines of markup ). The plugin
uses nabble.com to search the mailing list.
Anyways, I thought I''d share.
If you want to install it the manual way, here''s the code.

acts_as_stateless ?
Is there such a thing that I could use to store sessions in the DB
instead of in a cookie so that I can ensure users will be able to
access their session data even across several load balancers? We use
totally stateless machines here at work and I am worried about
deploying a rails app in production that uses a volitile session
stored on the machine.
Any help is great!
Happy Holidays,

CentOS Based Fierwall Document
For those of you that either have an older revision of my firewall document, or are otherwise keeping track of it, there is a new version available. The current version of the document is version 3.1. It's changed rather significantly in some areas.

Blank Machine Again.
After a bit of looking around, I realise that my initial descision to
go for Fedora Core 3 may have been a bit premature, (I read that some
experienced users are having issues with this version) so I'm starting
again.
I just tried Xorcom Rapid, but it looks bloody complicated, and fairly
stripped back.
