Wave of <elCheapo Wintel> Laptops.
Internet reports that I'm 1-of-many victims, failing to run linux on new/cheap laptops. Eg. quad-Atom; connex L1470. What is syslinux's recomended method to overcome <WinTel's UEFI lockout> using a USBbootStik ? Are wifi drivers: RTL8723BS for linux available yet ? ==TIA.

Syslinux should work fine with UEFI (it does for me), and if for some reason you

reboot - is there a timeout on filesystem flush?
...e about write commits. This sort of behavior is a VERY good reason to stick with vendor qualified and branded server drives that have been tested to work with the specific controller + backplane configurations they are sold with. And yes, those drives cost 2-3X more than your Newegg/Amazon elcheapo desktop stuff. All of this controller and drive behavior is a VERY good argument for the use of end to end checksumming like ZFS does... a ZFS 'scrub' operation WILL detect any data corruption on the file system and raid, whatever the source, and many inconsistencies can be corrected,...

Hard drive write cache
I am looking at ways to harden my asterisk install to prevent computer related issues from happening. I am concerned about about disk write cache. That seems to be a major source of hard drive corruption on power failure. Hard Drive corruption is simply unacceptable for the 99.999% uptime requirements of my Asterisk install that needs to be as reliable as a proprietary PBX. Of course I will be
