pxelinux and 2.6.9 kernel parameters
...K. The kernel
transfers. The initrd transfers. The kernel uncompresses the image OK
and boot starts. The kernel panics and dies with an error like "ram
image not found at 0"
Where has the uncompressed image gone to? Is there an offset at play
here? Is pxelinux not compatible with (older) EISA based machines?
My hardware is an old Compaq Proliant 5000 server. The need for a kernel
memory parameter is well documented. Please see www.cpqlinux.com.
Thanks for any help.

6.0-REL problems with ISA ed0, FFS corruption and ancient hardware
...recently upgraded a 4.11-REL machine to 6.0-REL and have run into some
snags. While the installation from CD went fine, after configuring and
enabling my ed0 NIC, bad things start to happen.
FWIW, this machine is an ancient (hardware circa 1991, BIOS circa 1994)
dual-Pentium 133 MHz machine, with EISA/PCI and onboard SCSI.
So far I can reliably reproduce two panics, one appears to be a ed driver
bug (based on reports of similar panics with different NICs, notably nge)
and one is a filesystem corruption problem.
Here's the process that I go through to reliably reproduce both problems.

Proliant on a 6500
Sorry to reply to myself, but I wanted to expand this to -stable and add
some more info...
See the original post at the bottom of this msg.
I just took the Smart 2/P and put it in slot1 (one of the shared Eisa/PCI
slots.)
Now the Dmesg output shows the "SMP: AP CPU" lines in a different order...
They were:
SMP: AP CPU# 3 Launched!
SMP: AP CPU# 1 Launched!
SMP: AP CPU# 2 Launched!
now they are:
SMP: AP CPU# 1 Launched!
SMP: AP CPU# 2 Launched!

Serial PnP for NUT?
...et' driver, but the support for
this doesn't seem to be widespread among the UPSes compatible with this
driver. So far, I have only managed to get one (a Sweex 1000) to output
it, but unfortunately, it is probably too generic to be really useful
for autodetection:
PnP revision : 1.00
PnP EISA ID : UPS
PnP product ID : 0001
PnP description : SMART UPS
Nevertheless, if someone is working on serial PnP, you may want to add
this. I'm not intending to implement this in the driver, since by the
time a driver is started, one should already know it is the correct one.
If we do want to ad...

How to test if PCI 2.2?
Is there a way to test if the motherboard is ready for a Digium card
(PCI 2.2) ?
I would like to know from a remote computer, where I have (root) access,
if this computer is ready for a TDM22B.

Xen on Dell PowerEdge 1850 with Perc 4e/Si controller
Hello,
I am having issues making my box boot with Xen. I am
working with linux-2.6.16.28-xen on a gentoo box. The
server is Dell PowerEdge 1850 with Perc 4e/Si, FW
521X. When dom0 reaches the point of scanning the SCSI
controllers, it hangs in a loop
aic7xxx_dev_reset_returns 0x2002. My regular (non-xen)
kernels come up fine with detecting my adaptec scsi
controller.
Had anyone had the same

STABLE regression with AIC-7902 controller.
I have a Supermicro SuperServer 6013P-8 system which features a X5DPR-8G2
motherboard with embedded Adaptec AIC-7902 dual-Ultra320 SCSI controller.
Said system boots and runs fine with 4.8-RELEASE (with a slight cosmetic
problem during boot that can be cured by building a kernel without eisa
support). With STABLE (as of 19 June) the system locks up hard (no
response to the keboard) during the boot.
The last messages to appear on the console screen before the hang (with
boot_verbose set) are the following:

X86_64 and 4GB RAM
Hello,
I have an odd problem on a dual processor, dual core Opteron system.
Obviosously it is x86_64 so should have no problem large amounts of
RAM. The system has 4 GB installed (2GB on each processor).
If I boot the system with a fresh install of Debian Etch it sees all the memory
fine. dmesg reports:
