Problem deleting an active route
Hi all,
Some how I have an extra active route setup in my CentOS 4.4 system
(that unfortunately at a data center a ways away from me). I have tried
using /sbin/route del -net xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx but get an error.
I also have Webmin installed and I can delete the route from there, but
on applying the network config, the route comes back. I have no idea
where it is coming from. It is preventing me

(no subject)
OK, so after several weeks of trying to get various versions of Xen running of various distributions, I''m starting to wonder if I''ve got a hardware compatibility problem and as the system never really boots with the Xen kernel I''ve got no log files to tell me where the problem is. I was wondering if there''s a way to compile from source with debug turned on,

Hardware or Software RAID w/CentOS 4.4 & Gigabyte GA-81945GZME-RH motherboard
Hi all,
Helping a friend setup a new machine - it will be a low volume web and
mail server. He wants to set it up with 2 drives in a mirror setup. The
motherboard he bought supports mirroring on the hardware level.
I have heard of issues before using hardware raid on Linux systems.
Which way would you recommend we go on this?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Couldn't recognize the image file format for file /usr/share/gdm/themes/Default/background.png error
Hello All,
I am getting the following error on re-booting my CentOS 4.5 server:
"There was an error loading the theme *Default*"
"Couldn't recognize the image file format for file
'/*usr*/*share*/*gdm*/*themes*/*Default*/*background*.*png*'"
It appears that when I click on the OK dialog the server continues to
boot, with no update to the screen. I have in the

Steps to create a mirrored CentOS system?
Hi all,
I am about to re-build one of my boxes with CentOS 4.4 I would like to
set it up as a simple mirrored system.
The box is a 1U server and has 3 SCSI drive bays. I can use 1 drive as
the OS drive and the other 2 for the content (basically websites) or can
just use 2 drives and mirror those.
What would you folks recommend?
Thanks

problem with CentOS Live CD booting
Hi all,
Trying to boot a server with the CentOS 4.4 LiveCD (have a crashed HD
that I am trying to recover data from).
The CD boots fine, gets past asking for the keyboard type, then asks for
a password. It will stay at the login prompt for a few seconds, then
whether I type anything or not, it gives a fast error message, something
about mixer not attached (it goes by too fast to read the

dumb question: Need to update my GD to include freetype support on CentOS 4.4
Hello,
Sorry for what might be a dumb question. I have a CentOS 4.4 machine
with GD installed. I tend to prefer doing things via RPM to allow for
updating in a easier fashion. I have a php based app that requires
Freetype support in GD. This is a live server with many websites on it
(although none are using GD at the moment.
I am not sure the best/easiest way to get GD updated such that it

Recommendation/pointers please - Need to brush up on CentOS/Linux command line tools
Hi all,
I would very much appreciate any suggestions on any online resources, or
even a decent book to purchase with the focus of brushing up on Linux
command line tools. The focus is on troubleshooting type commands,
adding users from command line
and so forth.
While I am reasonably comfortable using the command line, I will be the
first to admit I am slow on some things and have gaps in
