Comparing a 4-point and 5-point Likert scale

Much more, somewhat more, about the same, somewhat less and much less.
The second questions ask:
"People who can afford to, should be able to pay for their own health

strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly agree.
Now, assuming that I rescale them so that 1 equals the most
egalitarian position and the highest number (4 or 5) equals the least
egalitarian position, how can I make these two results comparable.
Two ways come to mind: one is to collapse both into a dichotomous
variable and do a logistic regression on both. The danger here is that
I have to decide what to do wi...

For 'VECH' you can write a function using the
'lower.tri' function.
But it seems to me that the assumption behind your
question is that a simple function that someone else
has written is going to be better than a simple function
that you write. Not true (barring bugs).
R is egalitarian -- your functions have the same standing
as "official" functions. A lot of times it is faster to write
a function of your own rather than search out someone
else's even if you know such functions exist.

Re: ext3 / ext4 on USB flash drive?
...kind that mere users would normally be well advised to avoid, or the
manufacturer fesses up to its scam by publishing the specs; it is
nevertheless the case that this news has come from the filesystem
maintainer himself, and my faith in humanity is thus restored by this
simple proof of floss's egalitarian creed. Amen.
That said, the user forums are full of lost souls, despairing for want
of an answer to the simple question of whether they could well or
should not format their USB in ext3/4. Are you implying that it cannot
be known unless the manuf gives you the specs and if this is the case
and you...

ext3 / ext4 on USB flash drive?
I think this is really an attempt at user feedback, rather than user
discussion. But there's no such thing as a user-feedback mail list.
Nevertheless, others may find this pertinent: why doesn't mke2fs
handle USB's competently? And if it does, why doesn't it reassure me
so? And how can I handle a linux-formatted USB flash drive in the
absence of my system giving me any guidance?

VEC Operator in R
Can anyone please tell whether there is any R function to act as "VEC" and
"VECH" operator on Matrix? Yes of course, I can write a
user-defined-function for that or else, I can put dim(mat) <- NULL. However
I am looking for some R function.
Your help will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
