read (and edit?) registry files on Linux
Hello,
Is there a way in Linux to read Windows registry files?
I have only ssh access to the Linux/Samba server, and would like to be able
to check settings in user profiles (in their ntuser.dat files). Best would
be if I could even edit settings in there.
For now, it seems the only thing I can do is scp the files to a Windows
machine, and manually load the hives in regedt32. Very

Remote Windows registry read access from Linux?
...how this is possible
from Linux?
(Most of) the information we seek is present in the registry of the
remote windows machine, e.g. installed programs/hotfixes. But the Event
Log, Info about running services, users, shares etc. is also on our
wishlist.
I tried upgrading my samba to 3.0.2a, and editreg(1) says "...currently
only NT4...", and editreg was also not created during my build.
Regardless, from reading editreg(1) it doesn't seem that it would do
what I need anyway, such as accessing a remote registry. rpcclient also

samba profiles tool
Where is this tool supposed to be?
I install the debian packages for version 3.0.1 of samba and
samba-common, and I can't locate the profiles tool for editing user
profiles.
Does anyone know where I can get this tool.
Thanks

ntconfig.pol not loaded
...with policies under win2k/samba3/ntconfig.pol/poledit
It worked at first, but now seems my win2k test machine doesn't want to load the
ntconfig.pol located into \\mysmbpdc\netlogon
I've seen some threads about the same prob. but none with a solution.
I know there is a project with an "editreg" tool planned.
But for now I would like to apply policies under my win2k workstation with old
format.
If anyone have a good policies conf. working, I'm interested in.
