Dell Lattitude E5430 -- split screen
Dear All,
I installed CentOs on a brand new Dell Lattitude E5430.
I did a minimal install, then did a "yum groupinstall Desktop" and I
installed xorg-x11-drv-intel.i686.
Also, I installed a i686 CentOs on a 64bit system, thinking because it
has 4Gb or ram, It makes no difference.
The screen is split top to bottom on the left hand side.
This was...

HVM DomU with Kernel 2.6.27-19 on CentOS 5 hangs with 100% CPU at Linux bootup on Xen 3.2.1
Dear Xen Community,
today we tried to upgrade our base server from a Xeon E5430 to a Xeon
X5570 (Nehalem). This worked fine so far, but our DomUs with Kernel
2.6.27 no longer boot - they start up until the following message appears:

SATA vs RAID5 vs VMware
...Masses of ram and 2 XEON CPUs. But it
stutters.
Example : fire up vi, press and keep finger on i. After filling 2-3 lines, the
display is stopped for 2-12 seconds. Then they continue. This happens even on
the host OS, at the console.
Host system running CentOS 5.2 x86-64:
CPU : 2x Xeon E5430 @ 2.66GHz
RAM : 24GB
Mobo : DSBV-DX
HD : 5 x SATA ST3750330AS 750GB in RAID5
There are 5 VMs, detailed at http://www.awale.qc.ca/vmware/stj1.txt to make
this mail shorter.
Seems to me this system should be more then adequate to handle the load.
This is what vmstat on the host looks like...

"smbd <defunct>" process apprearing.
At this time the samba 3.4.1 (and 3.4.2) are unusable at all beacause
this behavior appears many dozens time per day... I've tested all the
hardware of the server and no problem. The server was equiped with 2
QuadCore E5430 @ 2.66 and 4Gb of memory. I've got 64 Workstations into
the domain (all workstation have dual-boot WinXP Pro / Ubuntu 9.04), and
about 600 users.
Any idea ?

Zlib plugin - when does it make sense?
Hi,
I run a small IMAP server for a dozen guys in the office, serving about
55GB of Maildir. I recently became aware of the Zlib plugin (
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib ) and wondered
1. given that there is about zero CPU load on my IMAP server, is
enabling the plugin a no-brainer or are there other things (except CPU
load) to consider?
2. For enabling the plugin, I suppose you

Intel VT-d Support
Hello all,
please tell me, how can I be sure that
my Xen installation is built with Intel VT-d support?
Something like
xm info | grep -i KEY-REGULAR-EXPRESSION
xm dmesg | grep -i KEY-REGULAR-EXPRESSION
What line I should look for?
And if it''s really built with it,
how can I be sure, that Xen has successfully
initialized VT-d hardware?
I have read [1] and the lists archives

CPU Model detection with virsh capabilities
Hello everybody,
I am a new user discovering libvirt with KVM software. During my first
VM creation, I saw an issue with virsh that I can't understand.
I wanted to emulate another CPU than the classical qemu32 using virsh.
So I used the virsh capabilites command to detect how is detected my CPU
host which is an Intel Xeon E5410 and my problem is that this CPU is
detected only with the

[LLVMdev] [RFC] Benchmarking subset of the test suite
...at are not useful for benchmarking.
My proposed exclusion list is provided below. I constructed this exclusion list primarily based on the following experiment: I ran the test suite 10 times in three configurations: 1) On an IBM POWER7 (P7) with -O3 -mvsx, 2) On a P7 at -O0 and 3) On an Intel Xeon E5430 with -O3 all using make -j6. I then used the ministat utility (which performs a T test) to compare the timings of the two P7 configurations against each other and the Xeon configuration, requiring a detectable difference at 99.5% confidence. I looked for tests that showed no significant difference...

Concurrent scanning of same disk
Greetings,
I am suffering of several weird errors which show randomly and make me
suspect some concurrency issue.
Libguestfs version is 1.28.1, linux kernel 3.16, libvirt 1.2.9 and qemu 2.1.
What I'm trying to do is comparing the disk state at two different point of
a guest execution.
Disk snapshots are taken through libvirt in different moments (I am aware
of caching issue), from such
