No cpu throttling for Xeon E5405?
Hi, we bought some machines with 2 x quad core Xeon E5405 processors and installed centos 5.3 on them. My problem is that I can't get the cpuspeed service to work. No driver seems to claim responsibility for the throttling and the fallback "modprobe acpi_cpufreq" in the cpuspeed init script just yields a "No such device" messag...

Windows Xen VM's have high guest CPU usage and poor performance
...om0's cpu usage as reported by xm top is 622%. It seems like Xen is just performing poorly while handling these Windows VMs. Any suggestions? I have Windows VM's on other hardware (typically PowerEdge R905s and R710s and they seem ok). This 2950 is a decent machine.. 32G RAM, 2x Xeon E5405 (quad core) at 2ghz. And I'm only allocating 1 CPU and 768MB RAM for each VM. Sample config: name = "win01n" maxmem = 768 memory = 768 vcpus = 1 builder = "hvm" kernel = "/usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader" boot = "c" pae = 1 acpi = 1 apic = 0 localtime = 1...

Re: Poor performance running WinXP x86 hvm underCentOS5.1x64 with xen3.1
I found on some CPUs an ACPI based HVM chews up a lot of CPU time versuses an APIC HVM, so in Windows I would change the computer type in device manager to "Standard PC" and disable acpi in the domain config. -Ross ----- Original Message ----- From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com <xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com> To: xen-users@lists.xensource.com

Background stress test
Hello, We did small test with sipp to test Asterisk Background command capability. Our goal was 700 sim. calls on HP Proliant DL160 G5 E5405 1 x Quad Core Xeon 2Ghz 2 Gb RAM Asterisk 1.4.18.1 Centos 5.2 We reached more then 1000 when our network (100mbps) become a bottleneck. As we achieved our goal - no further testing was performed. As conclusion - we are very happy with Asterisk in this case. If somebody is in...

AHCI at boot?
...e already installed system use the "new" ahci controller? Previously, it appears to have been using the piix module to access the drive with the root fs on it. I'm using the 64-bit 2.6.18-92.1.18 centosplus kernel (for XFS support). The box is running an asus dsbf-de board, with 2x e5405 cpus and 16g of ram. There are six drives on the ahci, one 80g "system" drive (the boot drive), and five 750g storage drives. There is also a supermicro 8 port sata hba in the system, with five 250g drives on it. The supermicro uses the sata_mv module and is detected just fine. Thank...

dom0 unable to launch domU
Hi, I have a problem with a dom0 which is unable to launch my domU : all my dom0 are Debian Lenny amd64 with Debian kernel 2.6.26-2-xen-amd64 and xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64. Then all domU (PV) are Debian Lenny amd64 too, with vanilla kernel 2.6.29.6. So, this new dom0 can''t launch any domU which are working on an other dom0. Software is same on both dom0, and hardware is near the

zfs, raidz, spare and jbod
Hi. I installed solaris express developer edition (b79) on a supermicro quad-core harpertown E5405 with 8 GB ram and two internal sata-drives. I installed solaris onto one of the internal drives. I added an areca arc-1680 sas-controller and configured it in jbod-mode. I attached an external sas-cabinet with 16 sas-drives 1 TB (931 binary GB). I created a raidz2-pool with ten disks and one spare....

Bug#710522: xen-hypervisor-4.1-amd64: Boot hang with Linux 3.2+Xen, works with linux 2.6.32+Xen or 3.2 raw
...ly when booting either Linux 3.2 without Xen, or when booting Linux 2.6.32 (linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 from Squeeze) on Xen. I tried with Xen 4.0 from Squeeze (xen-hypervisor-4.0-amd64) the behavior is the same (it hangs with Linux 3.2). The systems are all running 2 quad-core Xeon (E5320 or E5405) with 32Gb to 64Gb of RAM, with Supermicro X7DB8 motherboards. Here is a LSPCI on one of them : 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 5000P Chipset Memory Controller Hub (rev b1) 00:02.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5000 Series Chipset PCI Express x8 Port 2-3 (rev b1) 00:04.0 PCI bridge: Intel C...

bad I/O performance with HP Smart Array RAID
...). The software versions seem to be ok for most machines: Lenovo A57 with S-ATA and (E8200, VT enabled): up to 90MB/s Shuttle, FB61 based, ATA-Disk (Celeron, no VT): up to 55MB/s HP ML350 G5, Smart-Array RAID-Controller (E5420, VT enabled): ~12MB/s IBM x3650, ServeRaid 8k RAID-Controller (E5405, VT enabled): ~140MB/s The figures are not real benchmarks - just a dd of a file which is big enough to get around cache effects in dom0. Unfortunately, the HP machines with the problem are in production use so that I cannot confirm, but I usually get normal performance out of HPs with SmartArray...

OpenVPN throughput
Hello listmates, We are working on setting up two private networks linked by a public network which is fast (1 Gbit/s) but potentially insecure. Since the hosts on our two networks need to talk to each other, and do so securely, we have decided to use OpenVPN to connect them, making one gateway a server and the other a client. The connectivity part was easy to establish and worked like a charm.

Xen system hang or freeze
Hi all, This is my first post to the list, I hope someone out there can help! I am running xen 3.0.3, with CentOS 5.2 based Dom0 (kernel-xen-2.6.18-92.1.22.el5) Recently I have noticed some complete system lockups on a few different servers. Neither Dom0 or any of the guests respond to pings, connecting a keyboard and monitor to the system only shows a blank screen. Nothing is written to logs
