Still Having Problems With Password Authentication for 1.9.18p7
...authentication for 1.9.18p7. Samba only recognizes the root password only!!!! I thought password authentication was fixed in version 1.9.18p5. Anyway, here's output of the problems I'm facing: After starting smb and nmb using root's ID the following test was successful: 3 root@Sun-E3000:/usr/local/samba/private ==> smbclient -L sun-e3000 Added interface ip=207.21.123.4 bcast=207.21.123.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Server time is Fri May 15 00:17:15 1998 Timezone is UTC-7.0 Password: Domain=[CHAMPION] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 1.9.18p7] security=user Server=[SUN-E3000] User=[root] Wor...

...ba (1.9.18p4) and set up password encryption (per instructions in the ENCRYPTIONS.txt file). Setting root's smbpasswd worked with no problems. I set another user (me) with an smbpasswd. Windows 7 can't see my Samba server
...twork has a router and 2 computers; my F11 box with the samba server on it called steve and my wife's laptop now running Windows 7 called Kellie-PC. My old router was a Linksys WRT54G that I had flashed with DD-WRT. I was using DHCP and DNS masquerading in the router. The new router is a CISCO E3000 which isn't supported yet by DD-WRT so no local DNS but I'm still using DHCP. For my test I added Kellie-PC to /etc/hosts and check the IP address before I run the test. steve can ping Kellie-PC by name and Kellie-PC can ping steve by IP address. I have one samba user, Kellie, defined. F...

Upgrade & directory permissions
...ermissions on directories. Users can still map the shares that are set up, but cannot access the directories within those shares. This is also not consistent; it's not happening to all users. Our environment: Samba 3.0.2a Domain Authentication to a Win2K server No Winbind Solaris 8 on a Sun E3000 server I'm inclined to back out the upgrade, but if there's a quick fix I'd prefer to implement that. non-root users cannot use smbpasswd...
...we are running a samba-2.0.6 server on a Sun E3000, to provide file and print service (but not logon service) to users on PCs. It works fine except for an enormously annoying problem: ordinary (nonroot) users are not able to change their own samba passwd. When a user invokes smbpasswd he or she gets the following response: euler$ /usr/local/samb...

NT accounts lockup up
Hello, I've just spent the last two days sifting through the archives of this mailing list and although I found one or two references to my problem I've been unable to find the solution. I'm running Samba 2.0.4b on two machines: E3000/Solaris 2.5.1 E3500/Solaris 2.6 My clients are running under NT4.0 . I'm using the mode security = server. Everything works fine most of the time, but from time to time (more and more often in fact), the NT password server refuses to authenticate the password and I get the following message...

Strange samba behavior
...ailover in production. If I manually fail over the cluster during off-production time, I don't see the same behavior. During production, I can have between 800 and 900 shares mapped at any given time with up to 300 files open at any given time. I'm running version 2.2.2 of Samba on a Sun E3000 with four 250 MHz processors with 512 mb of memory under Solaris 8. Thanks for any help or insight anyone can give - Mike

SSH backups - 1hr daytime; 8hrs nighttime
...f which state that they have experinced poor performance problems with ssh on Solaris. They do not, however, state if it is openssh, which version, what hardware, or what version of Solaris. (All I can say is that we have had no problems with openssh (2.1.1p1/2) on Solaris 7/8 with hardware from an E3000 down to an old sparc classic.) Anyway, I wondered if anyone on this list had any ideas of what might be causing a remote backup to take much longer overnight than during the day. I have now run 'top' on both systems overnight and noticed nothing unusual. A remote backup using ssh from the...

Urgent Help pls - NT4.0 Term Server and SAMBA - RDR timeouts
...ince management that unless these "samba" errors are fixed, we should move to NT file shares. I think this is a bad idea. Can anyone help me out here. We are running samba 2.0.6 (1st msg) and 2.0.5a (2nd err msg) (go to 2.0.7 when we have tested it) on Solaris 2.7. The hosts are 2 x E3000. The clients are NT 4.0 Terminal server clients. They at times can be prone to hitting the same files for reads and writes. The NT term servers are Compaq Proliant 6400 servers, with 2 x 550 Mhz CPUs and 2Gb of memory. PLEASE, ALL/ANY term server tips for smb.conf are Very welcome. I'll ap...

Performance problem
We use some Samba servers running SuSE 7.1 and samba 2.2.1a. These servers are sometimes very slow while delivering data over the network. It is like a short sleep-mode followed by a wake up. We use Win 95, 98 and 98SE Clients. Any ideas? Thanks from germany, Andre Klocke -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed
