Background worker dynos on Rails using Heroku
Hi, I have a rails application that requires data from an API to run. Since the API is slow I am looking to have a background process run continuously and scrape the API for new messages and add it to the application database From some reading , a worker dyno seems to be the best way to achieve this. Any links on how to go about scheduling a continuous running worker process in the background

[LLVMdev] [LNT] running LNT in 'the cloud'
On a few occasions, Daniel has mentioned running a LNT instances from a PaaS cloud. A while back I decided to see if that is possible. I am happy to report it is. In r210134 I made the necessary changes to allow LNT to run on the Heroku PaaS cloud. https://www.heroku.com The commit is all configuration changes to instruct the cloud on how to run the app. I have a live instance of LNT here:

[LLVMdev] [LNT] running LNT in 'the cloud'
In terms of cost, I thought an LNT instance would exhaust the free database rows much faster than the free dynos. The price for the small database was only 8 dollars a month though. > On Aug 12, 2014, at 1:23 PM, Renato Golin <renato.golin at linaro.org> wrote: > > Hi Chris, > > Nice setup! > > > On 12 August 2014 19:01, Chris Matthews <chris.matthews at apple.com> wro...

Sidekiq on Heroku
Hi I want to use Sidekiq to run some jobs in the background. The jobs will be created by the whenever gem (or similar) which creates a Sidekiq worker at a specific time. This worker will in turn create a few hundred Sidekiq jobs. So, I''m using Heroku and wonder if I need to use a separate worker dyno for these jobs? Or can I use, for example, Unicorn to run Sidekiq "inside"

News: Heroku bought: Salesforce wants some Ruby love: $212m goes a long way
...r interface, and an optional middleware layer, and it runs with different Ruby frameworks, like Rails and Sinatra. A Dyno is a single process that runs your Ruby code on the underlying server grid. Heroku sits on top of Amazon, and the big sell is its simplicity on features and price: you provision Dynos across different server CPUs rather than provisioning and working out the price for individual servers, as you would if you were using Amazon. Harris said Salesforce.com wants to take its own tooling and break it down so there''s lot of "small, sharp tools that are right for the job.&...

Mysterious Application Error on Heroku
I converted my app to rails 4. My test suite is green and it runs great locally. I then deploy to Heroku and it crashed with no information at all. It just says "Application Error. An error occurred in the application and your page could not be served" Heroku logs don''t give any info either: -------------------------------------------------------------

Newbie - deployment, hosting
Hello, So, after learning ruby on rails and building a great app on my local machine, I need to find a host, deploy, and of course maintain a (staging and) production environment. This all seems very confusing, and I''d like to learn this in an organized manner, step by step: I''ve come across the names: Unicorn, nginx/apache, capistrano, Thin/mongrel, Engine Yard, EC2, etc.,
