Questions about bug reporting for DX10 games
In this forum post : http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=9260 , it has been suggested that we test DX10 games and that we report issues. However, with only about 5% of the entire implementation done, we can expect a lot of things to not work properly. Hence, I was wondering how would it be best to proceed with reporting. Is it recommended to test with winetricks d3dx10, or clean wine? What should we...

Tell me the truth about WINE
...nally complete. If I have to install Windows *anyway*, I might as well use it for everything instead of having to reboot every time I feel like playing a game. Realistically, can Linux/WINE replace Windows for a gamer? The question is especially poignant here and now, with Vista on the horizon and DX10 compatibility forcing Windows users to upgrade (for the record, I'm still on 2k by choice, and have no desire to continue using Windows as it becomes more invasive with regard to WGA, DRM, product activation and the like.) I would like an honest assessment of what gaming would be like if I made...

how to use directx10/11?
...to use directx 10 or 11 for games in Wine, what do I need to install to do so, and do I then need to use a special tag (like the -opengl tag) when starting a game? I have been googling and having a hard time making sense of the information I have been finding. Some places reference a 'wine dx10' and some game forum posts say to install directx 10 or 11 (depending on the game/video card) via winetricks. I am leery of trying random changes to my Wine installation when I haven't been able to find instructions on the Wine site for this to verify the steps.

Halo2 and msvc issues
Greetings. Since Halo 2 still doesn't seem to work in Wine, or at least noone put an entry saying it worked up in AppDB, I decided to give it another shot using 1.0-rc1. I have no hope that the original version (which is Vista-only) will ever EVER work in Wine, so I got me the dopeman XP version. This is cracked or something to work with XP. This version does not use an installer, but instead

Can I play any Win7 game on Linux?
Hi, I am apprehensive about buying the Windows 7 for my new desktop PC ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ig_b41uOQCg ) and pay more than 100 euros for it. I don't have enough money before I get the student loans after New Year 2012, and I was wondering if I could get Linux somewhere today or before Christmas holidays. Before I decide, tell me, can I play any Win7 game I like on Linux, by

Wine on Windows 7... Anyone actually tried?
Oi. So. Now we have a version of windows that actually has legit uses for wine. Windows 7 can't run horrifyingly outdated 16bit programs(Such as Exile Escape from the Pit) period. Atleast so Ive herd--and tried and seen to seem to be true. Not to mention a multitude of programs that SHOULD run--but just dont like it(Worms Armageddon, for one... though dunno if it works on wine) Also.

minimap and Leaderheads not showing up in Civilization IV
...ppdb, we can see that minimaps are rendered correcly, and the wine version is the same as of mine. I'm using an intel GMA 4500HD and I have seen claims that it rendered Civ IV under wine correctly. Also driver support for intel chipsets seems to be good on linux, and it supports opengl 2.1 and dx10 natively, and has enough horsepower for that game. Am I missing a setting in xorg.conf? Is there a missing library on my system? Thank you very much, posting screenshots as soon as I host them on the internet. See you soon.

Kickstarter
Kickstarter has proven its efficiency, many games and other programs were sponsored and created because of crowd funding. So, why not to use it for Wine? There are some major missing and complex features like D3D10/11 support and there are games like Battlefield 3 that only support DX10. Implementing these libraries would allow running other new games as well. I propose hiring fulltime developers for money using kickstarter for that. It just needs some planning and then everyone wins: devs get money, linux gamers get newest games for quite a small price and others get free code f...

DirectX 10 in Wine
I found this searching the web and think it could be of some help in getting directx 10 games working. http://alkyproject.blogspot.com/ The project is dead but they are allowing the use of their source code.

MDAC28 installation workaround
I'm posting this so that it will show up in a search for folks having difficulty in installing mdac28.dll for a variuos applications using winetricks. I was stopped by issue #113 (Error 404 'Not Found' with winetricks installing mdac28/27/25) resulting from relocation of the setup file on the MS Downloads site, when I noticed that winetricks is a script. (Yes, well, I'm a newbie to

Wine apps load from Ubuntu application munu but not from cli
...been the only exe to have this problem, but it is hit and miss. I have had this problem across multiple installs of both Ubuntu and wine so I assume it's just something I'm doing incorrectly. Here's my setup: Ubuntu: 10.04LTS wine: v1.1.42 --fresh install with replacement of dx9 and dx10 dlls I'm just paranoid that i may loose the launcher and be stuck with no way to launch my apps. :?

Wine, ICC compilation and performance tests.
Hello everyone. As some of you know, I was able to compile wine with Intel C++ Compiler (ICC), compilation log is located here: http://wine.x.pl/wine-1.1.38-ICC-compilation.log.tar.gz Some tests failed, and dxgi failed to compile (this is only related to DX10 I think), anyway all apps I tested worked fine (Red Faction 1 & 2, 3DMark 2000,2001SE,2003,Foobar2000,Operation Flashpoint), so I did some benchmarks using 3D Marks and... surprise ? ICC is either slower then GCC or their speeds are even. For those of you who don't know why this is surprisi...

Running Wine on Win64
Hi all I'm wondering if it would be possible to run Wine on Win64 ("x64") to allow Win16 apps to be run? Preferably a native 64-bit binary, using mostly native DLLs. (Services for Unix / Subsystem for Unix based Applications might help for getting Wine compiled) It might be a great way to get more users and developers for Wine. Regular Windows releases of the DirectX 10 DLL's

No sound in World of Warcraft - intermittant.
At first I thought it was due to running Mangler simultaneously, but recently we've had no sound in World of Warcraft. One night when I was setting up to raid that night, I started WoW, and sound worked fine. I then quit WoW, started Mangler, started WoW, had sound in the first but not the second. When WoW started this dialogue box popped up saying that a change in hardware had been detected

Direct3D natively on Linux through Gallium?
I have just read from Phoronix that Gallium is going to support native directx on Linux. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=mesa_gallium3d_d3d11&num=1 Is it really possible? Is this true?

Make sure that Visual Studio works before 1.2 release
I was thinking that should be a good idea to make sure that at least Visual Studio 2008 is properly working in wine, before 1.2 release. In this way, we could test specific functions in wine, by creating simple test applications to test if the system calls are working well. I think that Visual Studio is a key application to test wine compatibility with windows, and it is an application that can be
