wish: postscript-device - LaTeX ec-fonts (PR#1322)
...rus,
I have a little contribution to the wishlist:
Since (?) I am using the more recent ec-font-family with LaTeX instead of the
original cm-family, I did not manage to use this new feature about using (TeX's)
cm-fonts for PS-output. I got the following errors when trying to use such a
file:

dvips: Font CMSL10 used in file fig.eps is not in the mapping file.

Beginner's Stumbling Blocks
...39;'s tripped me up: While iproute2 compiles and
installs easily (on a Red Hat 6.1 box), the documentation is in a format
that - while not obscure to old Unix hands - requires compilation, which
requires:
"To make documentation, cd to doc/ directory and make there. It assumes,
that latex, dvips and psnup are in your path."
Which barfs because I don''t have dvips. Nor is a source for dvips listed on
freshmeat.net, nor is there any dvips*.rpm in Red Hat''s own or contributed
directories, or a dvips*.tar at sunsite ... so it must be a part of some set
of utilities? It...

Problems with "help(topic,offline=T)"
...ave problems with generating
printable output with 'help()'.
Default output to the terminal ('echo $PAGER' gives 'less') works o.k..
When invoking 'help(topic, offline=T)' all the usual procedures seem to
start: 'top' reports invocation of latex as well as of dvips. But after
finishing there is no file; neither *.ps nor *.dvi files exist.
I checked for suspicous environment settings but couldn't find anything.
Also my dvips without problems produces files and doesn't send its output
to the printer when being invoked from the shell level. I thought of...

If I issue the command

ps-output and LaTeX/DVIPS/PS2PDF - Greek letters disappear
Hello!
My graphs are produced using the "postscript"-option in R (R version
2.10.1 (2009-12-14)). When Greek letters are used on the axis,
everything looks fine in the *.ps-file. If included in a LaTeX-file and
(on Ubuntu 10.04, fresh install), the Greek letters appear in the DVI-
and PS-output, however, if converted with ps2pdf they suddenly
disappear. Could anyone suggest a

Phonetic symbols (IPA) in R graphics
...ckage to get
International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) fonts. So, my problem would be
solved if I could insert LaTeX commands in the text() function (I
guess at least).
I would like to avoid using psfrag (that is, inserting a string in
the eps figure and then substituting it with the right symbol with
dvips) because I would like to work with pdf pictures and pdflatex
as well as latex -> dvips -> ps2pdf.
If inserting special fonts is not possible at the moment, I would
appreciate some hints on how I could go about modifying text() to
include this feature. (This is why I post to r-devel instead o...

Sweave and sideways
Hi there,
I'm rying to 'turn' an Schunk in an .Rnw file(Xemacs-21.4.13, ESS-5.2.8,

Has anyone got the isorot package to work with Sweave?

Installing texlive dependencies
...07, which is a default), I removed
it. That removed R as well, and some other dependent packages. Then, I
installed TeXLive 2011 from CTAN. However, when I wanted to install R,
from Fedora's repositories, it asks for some TeX dependencies (for
example, tex-preview, texinfo-tex, texlive, texlive-dvips etc.).
I know that new TeX is installed in other place
(/usr/local/texlive/2011/), than the old, default of the Tex 2007
(/usr/share/texmf/). But, I defined PATH properly:
PATH=/usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/x86-64-linux:$PATH
Also, I have tried with the symbolic link:

Both versions of TeX are installed the standard way,
without changes (except adding a few local LaTeX style files).
Is this happening to anybody else?

Problems with Sweave and pdf.options(encoding="ISOLatin7") (PR#13234)
Hi,
Sweave for some reason does not respect encoding setting in pdf.options.
Everything is OK with ps.options. Thus when using non-default encoding
for graphs, resulting graphics eps file is correct, but pdf file is
not. Workaround is very simple, just use latex->dvips->ps2pdf chain to
get the intended pdf document. I tried to find the explanation for this,
but I did not find anything. If this is documented behaviour, I am sorry
for the disturbance.
After Sweaving the file below, pdflatex and latex->dvips->ps2pdf will
produce different pdfs. The tex fil...

off topic A4 paper
Dear R People:
Please excuse the off topic question.
What are the dimensions of A-4 Paper, please?
Actually, the question should read, "how do I set up a LaTex file
to fix A-4 paper, please?"
Thanks much!
