SIP "unphones"
...dial a sip-extension and make an
announcement (PA) and/or simply listen in to a room (baby-monitor).
Yes, I know, some of the more advanced phones can be configured to
behave like that, but it seems to a waste of money to have all those
fancy displays and keys tucked away behind a speakergrille and drywall.
BTW, I'm not dead-set on SIP, but it seems to be the most logical
protocol for this app (NOTIFY msg can carry directions on
mike/speaker/two-way, etc)

Trying to get Effect.Appear, Scale, Fade to work
...e at this, but have antied up with 30-40 hours of web
tutorials, advice forums, library books (incl: Prototype &
Scriptaculous In Action) plus lots and lots of trial and error with
this page''s code, and a little banging my head against the wall. I
hoping the solution is easier than the drywall dent repairs next to my
computer. I understand the javascript concepts (I think) but most of
the info I''ve seen does not include the Scriptaculous effects actually
inserted into a page''s XHTML code with external links (demo pages just
lead to "#"). Tutorials/books show...

Mobile phone codecs ...
Not strictly asterisk related, however...
Here's an odd one for you.. I got a Nokia E90 and setup it's SIP client
which runs via Wi-Fi (anyone know if I can make it work via GPRS/3G?)
Anyway, in a fit of idleness, I thought I'd see what codecs it supports,
as I couldn't find it in the manual...
And it supports:
ilbc
g729
ulaw/alaw
No GSM!
How odd is that, given

Mac Mini and chan_bluetooth, has anyone told The o if it works?
I googled on this for about an hour and the most relevant hit I got was, of
course, the first hit:
http://www.sowerbutts.com/linux-mac-mini/#support
In it, he indicates that the stock Bluetooth module "should work, but
untested" - he doesn't qualify the statement with anything. Has anyone tried
chan_bluetooth or even the Bluz stack on a Mini or a G5? If so, under Linux
or OSX?

I meant to mention that the DTMF tones and dialtone sound like they're
played at such a high volume that they clip through the handset's
speaker. DTMF is rfc2833, so what I'm hearing through the handset isn't

Inexpensive Layer 3 Switch?
Any recommendations on an economical layer 3 switch? Preferably something that you have hands on experience with connecting to IP phones with attached PCs? Specifically I need the ability to set the VLAN in the phone to tag voice packets and to set a native VLAN on a per port basis on the switch to put the untagged packets from the attached PC into a separate VLAN.
POE is not a requirement
