VST plugin (ez drummer)
Hi, I just registered. I have a problem related to wine: lmms can run some vst plugins with VeSTige, so I tried to get ez drummer working. It didn't work, so I downloaded Toontrack Solo, that is a program needed to run ez drummer as a standalone, and not as a plugin. It still wouldn't work, neither as a standalone. I made a few searches and I found out that it needed mfc42.dll so I

Changing a value in a particular row and column within a text file
Dear list, I need to change a value within a particular line of a plain text file with characters and numbers, and I haven't found any way of doing this by using R. What I have a is a file that doesn't have tabular data (so, I think that 'read.table' or 'read.delim' are not the right tools for this), but some text, and I now exactly the row that has to be modified and the

I'm doing testing on this at the moment. But to start with: >>Because music represents an analog signal, As I wrote, it would only apply to specific genres, not analog recordings. Electronic music quite often doesn't leave a computer these days. And it mainly consists of drums, synths & vocals/effects. Drums are often samples sequenced at sample (not sub-sample) accuracy,

However since shifted port ranges are still not available I still have a

The Oft Maligned comment field, initial thoughts.
Hey all. Ok, so I'll stand up and be counted a newbie in this list too (just did the same for the General discussion list). I (once again) read through the archives, especially the ones concerning the comment field. First, I'm not a developer, per se. I'm merely an anal-retentive power user of such things, who likes to have my music archived, and sorted. In reading through the

PROPOSAL: Sub-Tagging
I mentioned sub-tagging in an earlier post. Here's a more in-depth mail on what i thought of. One of the debates going on here are whether ARTIST is worthy of life. Another is whether the average user will bother filling in the detailed info Jonathan wants. Of course, all tags are optional, but nevertheless we should have a tagging-system that pleases _the_users_, that is, everybody: 1.

The use for an XML based metadata format
What I've gotten out of this discussion so far: 1) we need to introduce a means in which to do captions; this could be done through adding a "caption" element to CMML, or in another time-continuous annotation format; so far I am not sure which would be the better way 2) we need a XML annotation format for audio - in particular for music - that is more structured than vorbiscomment

The use for an XML based metadata format
Daniel, these are all good ideas and worth progressing. However, it may be better not to merge too many goals in one format (MPEG-7 did that and ended up as a big mess). So, I suggest to start by structuring the types of things you want - then finding out which parts belong where into existing formats such as vorbis comment, Skeleton and CMML, and only then start to develop a new format. For
