VST plugin (ez drummer)
Hi, I just registered. I have a problem related to wine: lmms can run some vst plugins with VeSTige, so I tried to get ez drummer working. It didn't work, so I downloaded Toontrack Solo, that is a program needed to run ez drummer as a standalone, and not as a plugin. It still wouldn't work, neither as a standalone. I made a few searches and I found out that it needed mfc42.dll so I downloaded it and put into the Toont...

Changing a value in a particular row and column within a text file
Dear list, I need to change a value within a particular line of a plain text file with characters and numbers, and I haven't found any way of doing this by using R. What I have a is a file that doesn't have tabular data (so, I think that 'read.table' or 'read.delim' are not the right tools for this), but some text, and I now exactly the row that has to be modified and the

If would be very genre dependent for the reason I explained: samples. Say you have a drummer repeating a drumloop. If it's recorded, there's no chance the noise of the drums will correlate, it will change all the time. But if it's a drum sample, they will match. It's easy to correlate similar kickdrums, but that hardly works with cymbals. Anyway, right now I get what...

.... That is also part of the reason why I am trying to push for a development of a replacement for Vorbis comments. Apparently I am not doing so well, but the idea seams to be sinking in to the list now. It COULD be done with semicolon separated values or parentheses. Like this: Preformer=Apophis;drummer However this dirty parch really is not scalable. It would also leave the question about rights, date, labels, URI (URLs for artist/label websites), and such unresolved. -- Daniel Aleksandersen

The use for an XML based metadata format
...for this, beyond simply the fact that the Vorbis spec says it should only be used for short 'jotted on the CD' type notes. First it is based on value pairs, this makes it hard to describe relationships in detail; you must either choose a field name that will not be widely understood ('drummer', 'sound engineer', even 'composer' won't get you far) or use a funny way of refining it in the value (such as artist=(composer) Beethoven), I think cast lists for films present a similar problem. There is consistency and indexability to be addressed (Ludvig van Beethoven;...

...xtensions are no problems. Just add a new namespace to the metadata element defining what stuff does. A list of valid values for the space separated role attribute is indeed needed. But I think this will be very tricky. What roles are needed? The Oft Maligned comment field, initial thoughts.
Hey all. Ok, so I'll stand up and be counted a newbie in this list too (just did the same for the General discussion list). I (once again) read through the archives, especially the ones concerning the comment field. First, I'm not a developer, per se. I'm merely an anal-retentive power user of such things, who likes to have my music archived, and sorted. In reading through the

PROPOSAL: Sub-Tagging
...detailed form: "Composer: Xz" "Performer: Yz" If the player supports only simple tags, it will show the subtags as a whole: "Artist: COMPOSER=Xz, PERFORMER=Yz" The tagger can also invent his/her own subtags, so that the comment: ARTIST=DRUMMER=Zz will be understood by applications as a subfield belonging to the ARTIST superfield. Also, if the tagger don't get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside when thinking of subtagging his/her oggs, he/she may choose to skip the whole thing and have it the plain and simple way: ARTIST=Yz The...

The use for an XML based metadata format
Daniel, these are all good ideas and worth progressing. However, it may be better not to merge too many goals in one format (MPEG-7 did that and ended up as a big mess). So, I suggest to start by structuring the types of things you want - then finding out which parts belong where into existing formats such as vorbis comment, Skeleton and CMML, and only then start to develop a new format. For
