Search and extract string function
...i all,
I'm trying to write a function that will search and extract from a long
character string, but with a twist: I want to use the characters before and
the characters after what I want to extract as reference points. For
example, say I'm working with data entries that looks like this:
Drink=Coffee:Location=Office:Time=Morning:Market=Flat
Drink=Water:Location=Office:Time=Afternoon:Market=Up
Drink=Water:Location=Gym:Time=Evening:Market=Closed
Drink=Wine:Location=Restaurant:Time=LateEvening:Market=Closed
...
For my function, I'd like to find what's located between "Loc...

openser/ser/Asterisk user meeting (beer drinking in Vienna)
...happening at metalab
(http://metalab.at/) - a place for geeks.
Thus, we meet there at Thursday, 20.9.2007, 19:00 CEST (=local Vienna
time). Metalab is located next to the city hall:
http://metalab.at/wiki/Lage
Metalab is no pub/restaurant. Thus, don't come hungry! Nevertheless
liquid food (drinks) is available.
We meet in the library (in the back of metalab): http://metalab.at/wiki/Lage
For people who do not know me - I will wear my openser T-Shirt (unless
it is in the laundry).
regards
Klaus

Random effects ANOVA?
Hi all --
So I have a very simple dataset, which consists of 60 subjects,
who watched one of three videos, drank one of two drinks, and
completed a task. The response variable is the time to complete the
task. The ANOVA command is simple enough: anova(aov(time ~ drink *
video, data = df));
However, the videos were randomly selected; I need to use the
random effects model for them. So I tried anova(aov(time ~ drink +

Interpretation of result in R
I am trying to do a quasipoisson regression to know if the frequency of
drinking of my subject is related to temperature. The problem is that I'm
not sure how to interpret my result.
1) Since my result is signifiant, can I tell that the frequency of drinking
of my subject increase linearly or exponentially?
2) When I want to quantify the increase, do I need to do an ex...

Some people asked me lately about how professional Dovecot is.
...defeats, gotten a
general would could fight and win a battle, General Grant. A fussy old
lady approached President Lincoln and complained loudly that Grant was a
drunk. Lincoln blinked at the woman, then said, "Ma'am, if you'll be so
kind as to find out what kind of whiskey Grant drinks, I'll send a case
of it to all the other generals."
Dovecot Works. That's all anyone needs to know. Plus it has a towering
wizard of a developer and an avid, engaged and endlessly helpful community.

Likelihood ratio test between glm and glmer fits
...the difference between the ordinary logistic regression from a glm() fit and the mixed effects fit from glmer(), basically I want to do a likelihood ratio test between the two fits.
The data are like this:
My outcome is a (1,0) for health status, I have several (1,0) dummy variables RURAL, SMOKE, DRINK, EMPLOYED, highereduc, INDIG, male, divorced, SINGLE, chronic, vigor_d and moderat_d and AGE is continuous (20 to 100).
My higher level is called munid and has 581 levels.
The data have 45243 observations.

[REL] Manage Fixtures 2.0.0
Just released a new version of the _Managed Fixtures_ plugin, previously
known as _Export Fixtures_.
The name change comes with some added functionality for managing the
fixtures, primarily with two new import tasks for importing specific Models
or all of them within the test/fixtures directory.
Both new import tasks take the exported fixtures, and allow you to directly

Pin in the Map - "tinyurl for maps" rails app
...A little while ago we launched Pin in the Map (http://pininthemap.com),
a rails application which allows you to easily mark a spot on a map,
attach some text to it, and get a simple link to pass around. It''s
basically tinyurl for maps.
It''s proved useful for organising after-work drinks, meetings, weddings
plus a whole variety of other things.
http://pininthemap.com. Hope you like it. Please let me know of any
suggestions you might have to improve it.
Cheers

I hazard to submit, more people are turning to opensource as XP becomes
obsolete.
Perhaps it is time to dust off the 101 material and get it ready to cut and
