Argh, preecho mistriggers
...lost! If you're on the list, speak up!) is maintaining a vorbis audio quality

http://hem.passagen.se/ingets1/vorbis.htm
He's doing us the great service of hunting down samples that break Vorbis (so
we don't have to :-)
In any case, it turns out that the trumpets in the dr4 sample are reliably mistriggering the preecho detector (which implies either a large bug in the detector, or general borkkenness which must be fixed). The artifacts in the sample are due entirely to Vorbis trying to encode the trumpets entirely in short blocks (which will suck for strongly periodi...

disabling of X86_CR4_DE
Is there a particular reason for doing this unconditionally on both 32-
and 64-bits in xenolinux? It would seem to me that this feature should
be disabled at most in unprivileged kernels... Thanks, Jan

Distinctive ringing on Cisco 79xx
Greetings, I am trying to implement distinctive ringing on a Cisco 7960.
I have tried setting alert_info to chirp1 or chirp2 before dialing the
phone, but it has no affect. If you have successfully implemented
distinctive ringing on a 7960, I would really appreciate seeing the snipit
of code that works.
Thanks in advance

Cisco 7960 SIP V6 and distinctive ring.
Hi
Can anyone with distinctive ring on their 7960's possibly post how they've got it to work?
I understand that the ALERT_INFO variable is involved but using the examples for the variable value from the WiKi I'm just getting an error message from the Asterisk concole.
Thanks in advance.

someday. Now I have four ring "patterns" to select from

we're at the functionality level that the ATA-186 has had for more
than a year.
PROBLEM: We have custom ringtones. Allow them to be used, please,

Stuck Parked Calls?
I've lurked for a while, but I think this is one of my first "pleas" for help. I'm having issues where a parked call using the macro below is getting "stuck". Users park the call via a blfxfer key on an Aastra phone. If the call is a blind transfer, it tries to park the call. If it isn't a blind transfer, it tries to unpark the call. Problem with setting ringtones on Cisco 7960 phone.
Hi All,
I am running into a problem setting the ringtones via _ALERT_INFO on the
Cisco 7960 phone.
I am using * 1.2.1 and have tried setting the variable to several
values. I have also tried setting the phone's software to both 7.5 and
8.2 thinking that it might be a version issue, but with no success.
I have examined the packets and do see the ALERT_INFO header being sent,

request: add TCP buffer options to rsync CLI?
...detail:
I was helping resolve a throughput issue between a research network
in France (Renater), and FermiLab in the US (Tridge- Dan Yokum says "hi!").
FermiLab distributes data from the Sloane Digital Sky Survey (SDSS)
using rsync. (cf. www.sdss.org, and
http://www.sdss.org/dr4/access/index.html
for the rsync reference).
Renater was using rsync to pull large amounts of data from FermiLab
across a fast,
long link, and was getting poor throughput (~20mbits/sec).
The core issues turned out to be
1. Too-small TCP send-buffer on the FermiLab server side
