smbwrapper or smbmount ?
Hi ! The O'Reilly "Using Samba" book, recommend not to include smbmount support as it is for Linux only: "This feature wasn't being maintained at the time the book was written, so the Samba team made it an optional feature and provided smbwrapper instead. The smbwrapper feature works on more Unix platforms than smbmount, so you'll usually want to use --with-smbwrapper

"net rpc rights" commands. Connection always fails
...ES\Domain Admins' SeDiskOperatorPrivilege -Uadministrator Enter administrator's password: Could not connect to server 127.0.0.1 Connection failed: NT code 0xc0000418 $ Typing nonsense into the username and password gives the same result. Perhaps a hint is when I (foolishly) did net rpc -S DOMAIN_CONTROLLER rights grant 'BES\user2' SeMachineAccountPrivilege -Uadministrator It worked and user2 was given the privilege ON THE domain controller. Originally I was using sssd/ldap/Kerberos and not winbind, but still had the same error, the machine has been wiped and reinstalled several times I...

smbmount and win2k permissions
> From there, you can use smbmount to mount SMB shares (from > Windows systems or Samba servers) in your Linux filesystem. smbmount works fine : $ smbmount //DOMAIN_controler/sharedir /home/toto/smb -o credentials=/home/win2k/DOMAIN/toto/.smbpw,uid='DOMAIN+toto',gid='DOMAIN+Domain users',fmask=664,dmask=775 The user toto is a domain user authenticated from the Win2k server. I can then see that toto owns all files and directories (fmask=664,dmask=775):...

smbclient kerberos issue
Running Samba 3.2.3 on Debian Lenny, amd64. I'm joined to an AD realm, authentication works fine for Windows clients. I'm able to see that the clients are using Kerberos, not NTLM to authenticate to the shares. However when I look at the keytab, my entries have the short names like "service/shortname@REALM" instead of "service/fqdn@REALM". Looking at Windows servers on

need help running samba 3.0.11 with security=domain (again)
...etting security=domain to work properly with Samba 3.0.11 (this seems to be the recommended configuration for the application which I use - ClearCase) We are running on a Solaris 10 server. We created a machine account for the server and then ran the command to join the domain : net rpc join -S domain_controller -U user%pass Joined domain BP1. The fact that we got the "joined domain" message looked encouraging. I thought that this would update /usr/local/samba/private/secrets.tdb - but the timestamp of this file didn't change. Is this normal ? Maybe it is because we can now access the sa...
