Alpha Two? (Impatient fan seeks news)
...imited (I'm competent enough to "tweak" other people's code, but not good enough with C to add new features wholesale), but I'm quite willing (and as readers of this list probably know by now, downright eager) to contribute what I can (e.g. documentation, such as: http://www.dogphilosophy.net/SECTION-Technical_Stuff/ogg-theora-microhowto.html as well as testing, and relatively minor coding updates, e.g. tweaks to error messages and options, creation of "example files" [encoded examples, etc.] ) Any news? --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg pr...

It's quiet. TOO quiet.
Whatever became of Ogg Theora? There seems to be still almost no news from Xiph or its developers regarding Ogg Theora. None at all since Mid-December, when the release of Alpha 2 was pushed back to a month ago... No news on plans for the second Alpha? No news of development "roadmaps"? No news on current developments or challenges that are stalling development? No CVS updates

"encoder_example" segfaulting...(and a couple of other questions)
...Anybody know if the example encoder was ever updated so that I can dump both video and audio from a single mplayer process instead of having to do an audio-only followed by a video-only process? Finally - what's left before Theora can go out as "beta 1"? Thanks [1] - http://www.dogphilosophy.net/SECTION-Technical_Stuff/ogg-theora-microhowto.html [2] - http://www.archive.org/movies/movieslisting-browse.php?collection=classic_cartoons

I need to make some data to test. I found a Micro-HOWTO at http://www.dogphilosophy.net/SECTION-Technical_Stuff/ogg-theora-microhowto.html which I will follow. Unless is there is easier ways or a download site to fetch Ogg Theora files. By the way, I created a package of "theora-nightly" for NetBSD (and also created new packages for CVS snapshots of libogg and libvorbis...

ADS mode - differences between W2K and 2003?
I'm having a bizarre problem doing authentication via winbind against a Windows 2003 server. Aside from changing the hostname information, etc. as appropriate for krb5.conf and smb.conf, the configuration I'm using is one that I copied from another server that is successfully authenticating against ads. The two systems I'm having trouble with are running Suse Linux Enterprise

Compiling CVS? (automake/autoconf problem with autogen.sh?)
I've eagerly grabbed the current CVS as of a few minutes ago, and attempted to build and play with theora, but am running into a snag with the autogen.sh script: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bash-2.05# ./autogen.sh I am going to run ./configure with no arguments - if you wish to pass any to it, please specify them on the ./autogen.sh command line.

Encoding from fifo's
Hello, I'm new to the list, so if this is an FAQ, please point me to the relevant docs. I'm playing with Theora, to see what kind of quality I can expect (I realise its not for production use yet). I've download the source from CVS, and got it to build, with the example encoder and player. While trying to find something to serve as a good source of input, I decided I'd use a

New addition to FAQ
Greetings, I was on IRC about 7 hours ago and suggested that the FAQ be updated slightly. Rather than sit on my ass and complain I figured I'd ask a few people, and see if the idea was worth the time. Here's what Ive started with: http://www.dimension.net.nz/theora.html I'll be adding to it over the next 24 hours - mostly in the area of Playback and Encoding. Just threw it together

Opus supported source client without transcoding?
have you tried "cat $1.opus $2.opus $3.opus | oggfwd" could be a band-aid until ices2 can work with opus files - if it works... Using Theora Micro-HOWTO
Okay, thanks to some stubbornness on my part and helpfulness on the part of people on this mailing list, I got the Ogg Theora alpha compiled up and installed and running. Yesterday, I went to the Prelinger archives (the public-domain video archive at www.archive.com) to find a high-quality original to re-encode as a test. The encoder worked just fine, and playback as well, and I thought I'd

Firefox 78 under CentOS 6 -- no sound?

Opus supported source client without transcoding?
Figured I'd join the list since I saw someone else had just popped in looking for exactly the same thing I am (non-transcoding opus streamer for sending multiple .opus files to icecast2). It looks like ices2 would do exactly what I personally need, except for not having been updated to support opus yet. (I chatted on IRC once or twice with someone who it sounds like is interested in adding

theora test suite
some of you may find this helpful: I've uploaded a short (5 second) raw clip in yuv4mpeg format, associated audio, and batch files to exercise the encoder & decoder examples. In addition I've included the file as compressed (test.ogg), and a longer version as well to test playback sync. Notes: to use MPlayer with the -vo yuv4mpeg option, you need to get the latest release and compile

Audio from fifo
...anymore sound. This could easily depend on the order of stuff in the file mplayer is reading. I guess something similar could happen for opening the pipes as well. The easiest solution I can think of would be to run 2 mplayer processes, one for video and one for audio. Based on your (emaillist@dogphilosophy.net) example, something like this: (in one terminal window): mplayer -vo yuv4mpeg -ao null -vop scale=640:480 -sws 2 test.mpg (in another): mplayer -vo null -ao pcm -aofile stream.wav -aop list=resample:fout=44100 (in another): strace encoder_example -a 1 -v 1 stream.wav stream.yuv > movie.ogg...

Automatic Update of MP3 Files
Okay, I'm pretty new to icecast myself, and have had to work my way through the same kind of confusion, so I think I know where you're coming from here. Part of the problem is that what you're describing and asking for doesn't really make sense...except that I know I'd have been mis-describing my situation pretty much the same way not too long ago so I think I understand

Can Windows Domain admin grant "write" access WITHOUT "full control"?
Setting up the initial connection to ADS was so easy...but now I'm stuck. I'm trying to show off how seamlessly Samba integrates into an existing Windows "Active Directory" domain, but permissions issues are making this look much more complicated than it ought to be. I'm trying to get file shares on a Samba 3.0.9 (Suse 9.2 pro) server to behave exactly like a W2K server

Samba "spamming" Windows ADS server event logs with "pre-authentication failure"?
It appears that for some odd reason, all of the samba machines on our network are causing frequent "pre-authentication error" events for the machine name to clog the event logs on the "ActiveDirectory" server. What's strange is that everything otherwise appears to be working - users can connect to samba shares and authenticate to the ADS server, but the event logs on

Samba4 as a "plain LDAP" server?
This is probably an insane question, but I'm going to ask it anyway... Does Samba4's embedded LDAP server also support being used as an ordinary (*nix-style) LDAP authentication server, at least for simple, basic use cases? Or is it necessary to have the OpenLDAP backend running to handle normal LDAP authentication?

Well, it's something at least...
Quick update - though not mentioned on the mailing lists anywhere until now, it looks like yesterday sometime, someone posted a "test suite" of datafiles to play with on the main page of www.theora.org ...but after all this time, I seem to have developed a problem with my Theora Alpha 1 build. First, somehow there appears to be a "/opt/kde/lib/libartsc.so" that gets added to
